WallE - Kinda disappointed

The wife and I had been looking forward to seeing WallE for a few weeks now, so we ended up going to see it last Saturday.

It was ok, but not near as good as Pixar's best, like Nemo or The Incredibles. We laughed a few times, but the best parts were pretty much all in the commercial. I would say it was a little better than Cars, but Cars was pretty lame.

The robot in this movie looks like a rip off of Short Circuit Johhny 5 done in the 80s. It doesn't look too hot but my 7yr old daughter wants to see it so I guess I am stuck

He can't pronounce it right. There was a scene where they go back-and-forth with EVE trying to get him to say it right but he keeps saying Eva.

Pixar makes different kind of movies that appeal to different kinds of people. I'm one of those few folks who didn't like Incredibles all that much compared to their other films. Nemo was great but it's more of a "kids movie" than WALL*E. I also thought WALL*E was a lot funnier than their previous installments.

Yeah, we laughed quite a few times. WallE was VERY cute, and the love story was touching, but we just didn't come out of the theater all happy like with Nemo. I didn't like The Incredibles very much in the theater, but I really started to like it after watching the DVD a couple of times.

I don't want people to think we thought the movie was bad, we just had high expectations, based on the commercial, and it didn't really live up to that.

It was good; just not great. I think Pixar stumbled a bit on this one.

Here's how I would rank the Pixar movies from best to worst:

3. The Incredibles

7. A Bug's Life
8. Monsters Inc.

I guess my long awaited re-visit to the theaters will have to wait. I'll just wait for the BD. I was also disappointed with Cars, but I have to admit Nemo and the Incredibles are pretty darn tough to live up to.

Tell that to my son. He absolutely loved it. I thought it was quite good, not their best but good. It has some good machismo going for it. I could tell Wall E would be lame from the get-go. Not planning to see it.

Really? I thought Cars was boring as hell. I didn't find myself caring about the characters at all.

No previews, just a short about a magician and his hungry rabbit that doesn't wanna come out of the hat.

I think Pixar is the victim of it's own success.

After you have so many winners in a row, it 's difficult to live up to one's own track record.

IMNSHO, up until Cars. which I found tiresome at best, and Ratatouie (sp?), which totally bored me, they had such a string of winners that it was only a matter of time before they fell prey to their own past success.

I haven't seen Wall E yet, but the wife wants to see it and when i do, I'll get back to ya. ...but my expectations aren't too high.

Actually, the thriill of animation may be wearing off for me. It may be fine for kid's movies but, for me, unless they can find someway to hook me again, it's charm for me may be over.

P.S. I think my all time Pixar favorite was "A Bug's Life"

I have an 8 yo daughter so I end up seeing most rated G movies that come out. Walle was by far the worst movie I have seen since shrek 3! I enjoyed Presto the Magician and it wasn't a total loss because of it. My wife and daughter did enjoy walle, I guess if you like sappy robot love stories this movie is for you.

To me, it seems like Pixar have turned into a coporation rather than what they used to be: simple fun, not unlike Disney themselves. They have lost their roots, and ironically, some of the things they poked fun at relative to corporate America in a few of their movies (Incredibles, Monsters Inc), are exactly the things they are doing. I would say the problem is simple: too many chiefs not enough braves.

I thought Ratatoullie was solid, but it still wasn't up to the calibur of the earlier works. The animation is stunning and the sound is excellent for the recent films, but there is something almost a bit sterile and lacking, IMHO. The stories are good, not great. The short films seem to have more content and substance to them.

I wrote a short story along the lines of cars in 6th grade...I wonder if Lassiter was in my class? haha.

I saw this today. I think you really didn't understand this movie or any of the jokes. The Eva thing was a gag, because he couldn't say Eve. And there was more dialog then that, this is just not a movie you go to for dialog.

Picture looked great, good sound, and a funny story. Lots of slap stick humor involving Wall-e. Highly recommended.

Whatever dude. My point was that MOST of the dialog in this movie was simply WallE and EVE calling each other.

It was funny and kinda cute; just not great. I think Finding Nemo and The Incredibles were the last GREAT Pixar movies. But hey, maybe you just need to have a little kid mentality to really enjoy this movie.

I personally rank Wall-E as one of Pixars best films and the most off-mainstream film they have made to date.

In terms of animation, this is the most talented work I have ever seen. (I've attended film school in the past and studied 3D animation). Please note that when I say animation, I only mean the movement of the characters.

As most of you have mentioned, this movie had extremely limited dialogue yet they were able to tell a story. They did this by showing you what's going on. On top of this, the main characters did not have faces - Wall-E (Yes, he looks like the Short Circuit robot) only has two lenses as eyes with little flaps as eye brows and Eve has two blue lights as eyes. Did you notice how you were able to tell what the characters were feeling just by their gestures? The animators were able to do this by making the characters slouch a bit, hesitate a bit, look to the ground, etc. It's pure genius.

The rendering was very well done as well. The city of garbage really had me thinking that they might have taken a picture rather than render it. The dust and dirt caked on the characters (and everything else) was superb attention to detail.

The story was a fairly simple one, but told in a charming way.

But I can see why some people might not like this movie - you have to be in the right mindset. You have to come to the movie without expectations of action and funny dialogue. Think of this as an art movie and you'll be more impressed.

Yes, the movie LOOKED spectacular, there just seemed to be something missing from the story. I didn't feel myself really pulled into the movie, like Nemo. Finding Nemo had me crying in the theater for God's sake. This one was just decent.

Unfortunately, I think the theater we saw it at kind of sucked, because I came back home and watched the trailer on my PS 3 and thought that the picture looked MUCH better at home than in the theater.
