I am looking into a sub at around the $300 range for my home theater system, which I also use about half the time for audio. I am leaning toward either the HSU STF 2 or the Mirage s10 but will consider something else. And would consider something gently used as well. There's a B&W ASW 608 which I may be able to grab in this price range. But the STF-2 is a stretch on the wife imposed budget.
Any suggestions before I pull the trigger would be much appreciated.

I have an Onkyo 606, a Paradigm cc-150 center, and Jamo 805's on the outside, )rears are not worth mentioning)

Two of the best subs are SVS and Hsu. I would go with the Hsu - STF2. If you are willing to get a used sub, a larger Hsu or SVS sub would also be good!

As a former owner of the Mirage S10 as well as Hsu subs I can say w/o a doubt you are on the right track so to speak. How big is your room? Is placement an issue? Perhaps, with a bit more info many of us here can offer more assistance. Some people really like the Bic H100 in that price range. I believe that is the correct model #. Dr. Hsu designed that one as well. Be sure to check it out. You might also want to look for a B-stock from Hsu, Outlaw Audio, SVS, and etc. Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Phil

I have a cabinet in the corner of a 25 x 12 foot room, although only about 15 of the length is the "listening area". It's not a perfectly symetrical listening environment, but what can one expect from a 2 bedroom condo? My TV and receiver are in the cabinet, my center and two mains are on top. The sub will be placed on the carpet to the right of the cabinet, within 2 feet of the corner of the room. I like listening to all types of music as well as movies and am looking for precision over brut force so don't necessarily need to go bigger.

Well if that is your goal and given your preferences the STF2 would be an excellent choice. The Mirage S10 would be as well. Personally, I would opt for a B-stock from Hsu or Outlaw Audio. The LFM-1Compact would also be one to consider. Rnat mentioned one via the link he posted which would also be a good choice. Hope this help. Good luck in your decision.

Damn damn damn

I just went to order an HSU SPF-2. OUT OF STOCK. I have 0 patience. Interestingly though, I looked on Ebay, they don't have it, and don't appear to have sold one using completed sales.

So it looks like I wait.

Therefore, if anyone else has any more suggestions, pulling the trigger is now going to take quite a bit longer.

I appreciate the information, but am now reconsidering my sub choice and for 75 or so dollars more, will likely be the new one.

Thanks again.
