I actually have 2 questions I am going to pick up a 50 hitachi tommorow Its not working after a lightning stike what would be the main areas to look for to try to fix it. And, number 2 if I cant get it working even though its a little bigger screen that the 46 inch I have now can I trim the screen down to replace mine its a little scratched.

Your not going to fix it, and no, you can not trim a screen.

Option 1. Get a professional opinion on the possibility of repair on the 50 inch.

Option 2. Take the 50 inch to the electronic recycling center.

Option 3. Leave the 50 inch cluttering your place for the next 25 years.

How extensive is your repair capability? For one you asked about trimming the screen down(can't do that). But as for getting it fixed, could be expensive. I'm in agreement with the other posters here that it won't be anything simple like a fuse.

Call the mfgr and give them the scenario. They may know something about ... for example the power supply could have a built in surge protector or the tv has some other built in over-surge protecting capability. I haven't heard of lightening strikes happening too often, but apparently once too many for you. More than likely the TV is not fixable. So don't get your hopes up. I wouldn't waste the precious gas or energy by picking it up. Call Hitachi first. Oh and to everyone else "get surge protectors" you never know when your number comes up. If it does by a lottery ticket.

Normally, if it wan't powered on when lighting stuck, it is relatively easy for a professional to fix. The initial transfomer and diodes would need to be replaced by a PROFESSIONAL. The problem is even though it is easy it might be expensive because a lot of power goes through the transformer and diodes and a lot of power equates to a lot of $$$. Get an estimate and check different places. Some have ceheap estimates( intial diagonostics) and some will apply to the bill if you repair with them. It pays to chop around ( call on the phone) with different repair companies; they are not all the same.
