I believe some recordings of Tchaikovsky's 1812 overture hits sub 20Hz with the canon explosions. That may not be what your looking for, but it will work.

Look for pipe organs, which can go down to 16 hz. There is a Hsu demo disk with this content as well.

I'm pretty sure some of the Blue Man Group songs go below 20hz. Also Imogen Heap, although I haven't seen charts of any of the songs to verify how much there is down there.

Here is a waterfall of a song snippet by Bass Cube called Cubism that I made:

It really pumps! It will work your sub and shake your house.

I'll post some waterfalls of some good low frequency organ music later.

If you're just looking for good test material, check out the movie "The Mighty Saturn." Beware, it supposedly goes waaaay down.

/I cannot be held responsible for any damage this may cause!

LOL, maybe it's pointless bass like in Resident Evil: Apocolypse that killed my M&K MX-100 twice.

Genesis with Peter Gabriel Songs with low bass

If you are looking for a classic progressive rock song, the Genesis Archives Volume I (4-disc set) has a disc with live concert sound that has organ notes going very low in frequency response. It bottoms out my Boston RX-9 car speakers rated to 30 Hz. I believe it is the disk with “Suppers Ready” on it but it may be another song on that disc. Genesis, on live performances, played low bass to set the room resonating as a special effect, (saw them live twice, in 73 (the “Suppers Ready” set) and 74 (The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway” tour). The music and live performances are good in this mostly live box set, except for maybe one disc that has a lot of very early studio work. That disc has more limited appeal. You might be able to find this box set in a good local library if you don’t want to buy it.

Harry Partch "The Delusion of the Furies" if you can handle it. The old vinyl version has a sample disc of his instruments including the marimba eroica which is a roughly twelve foot high marimba with a huge box. The CD version is fine. Also any good recording of Bach organ Tocatas. The SACD version by E. Power Biggs is especially good. Makes you wish you had four subwoofers.

I haven't performed any testing, but I'd hinder a guess that Crystal Method's got quite a few songs with material down in the 20s. Juno Reactor and Nine Inch Nails should as well. If you want some specific songs to try, let me know and I'll pick out a handful... -TD

Try Bass Patrol there a hip hop/instrumental group they specialize in LFE soundtracks. One of my favorite songs is "Let The Bass Blow" , man that songs pounds check them out I'm sure they will hit the low 20Hz notes also try instrumentals like Jibbs-King Kong the instrumental has lots of bass and the hook goes " you can hear me before you see me I got King Kong in my trunk" also try the techno band called prodigy but the best artist for bass is Bass Patrol:D

While a very few pipe organs can go below 20hz, most of them cannot and there are even fewer compositions that take advantage of it for that reason. The low E string on a 4 string bass guitar is 40 hz or so and low B on 5 string is around 35 hz. Large tympani can also play that low. For all practical purposes that's about as low as music ever goes. Other sounds that go lower than that would just be sounds and probably not musical ones.

If your concern is to have a sub that goes below 20 hz then think of it as a goal to reach for the sake of the goal and not because it is a practical thing to do. Subwoofers in the pro audio business rarely go below 35 hz. They are designed to produce volume rather than extension in the bass area. The pros don't give a hoot about going much below that.

Unless you like pipe organ (I don't), your best bet is techno/electronica. Try Radioaxiom by Bill Lasswell or 100th Window by Massive Attack.
