car subwoofer problem

hy, i'm new on the forum and i got a problem with my subwoofers.. or possibly amp, or the cd deck in my car.

it all worked fine and then i started my car one day, turned the music on and the sub worked fine for about 15 seconds and then cut out... and now every 20 seconds or so it will give a random bass hit completely unrelated to the song playing, even if i turn the sound all the way down and turn the sub off (via the deck) it still does this. the only time the sub doesnt do that ranbom hit is if i turn the sub off, turn the car off, and then turn the car on and keep the subwoofer off... any ideas??? if you could even tell me what component (woofers, amp or deck) i would be grateful... music sucks now

Sounds like you need to purchase a new car.

It sounds like to me that you may be having alternator trouble. If your amp is not getting a constant 12-volts it will go into protection mode. That is, if the load on your charging system is large enough the amp can over compensate by trying to pull more current. More current means more heat to the point protection kicks in on the amp or you blow a fuse. You also need to check your ground as I have seen bad grounds cause lots of strange problems. This, is how I would first try to diagnose your problem(s). It is doubtful one of your subs has developed a dead-spot in the voice-coil, but it is possible. Please check all connections too. Any updates? Just curious as to what the problem(s) was/were. Hope you got it taken care of.

I saw that, too. I was going to post it, but then I thought (optimistically) that the person checked out the responses without logging in.

Yeah maz I noticed that too. It may have been just a grounding issue or in the connections. Not sure, but it does look like at this point the op got it taken care of.
