as the title states.....bought a Samsung series 4 450 50 in plasma about 2 months ago and its been great. Yesterday i went and bought a samsung HT-Z310 5.1 digital home theatre system. i dont want this to be a "bash" what i bought thread....i just want some helpful information as i think im getting addicted to this stuff. i used the HDMI cable that went from my cable box to my tv to hook up the home theatre. the dvd player says loading and i see the dvd playing but i get no picture or sound. it says loading and samsung on the tv but nothing else. i went into the setup on the tv and put HDMI as the output but still nothing. im lost with what to do. any help would be appreciated. thanks

Welcome!

Question to get some clarification: when you put in a DVD, the screen on the TV changes and says "Loading" - is that correct?

If so, then the issue isn't with video getting to your TV. The issue is with the DVD player. Have you tried more than one DVD?

Thanks.

Okay, not trying to bash but you bought a very inexpensive older model Samsung Home threatre. The specs only say HDMI output ( No HDMI input) and not what version; I am guessing HDMI 1.1. the HDMI standard was still evolving then and there is not good compatibiltiy between varios HDMI compontnes until you get to HDMI 1.3 HDMI really doesn't add much resolution or PQ over component connect and in your case you can most likely get to work by connecting via component rather than HDMI. It is not quite as slick and uncumbersome as the single HDMI connections but I think you will be pleased. you will need Y,Pr, Pb, and left and right audio connections from cable box and from DVD into the HT-Z310 .

Good Luck.

P,s,- Another alternative is to take back (again not trying to bash) the Samsung HT-Z310 5.1 and upgrade to a HDMI 1.3 compatible HT system.

Stupid question here, and not meant to be insulting at all, but did you hook up a 2nd HDMI cable from the new home theater system to the tv?

well i know i got a cheap one....not rolling in the money here being military. i got it working with the HDMI cable, everything seems to be working just fine and im happy with it. the only problem with it is it seems the dvd's have to be perfect, not a single scratch or piece of dust on them. my old el cheapo wal mart player would play anything. it doesnt take much to make me happy so this set up will work for me. someday id like a room dedicated to a theatre but i think i have to get these 3 kids through college first and thats about 20 yrs awa y lol.

Thanks for your military service!

Great I am glad you got it working. I am not sure it is your system. I and a lot of other peoepel have trouble reading DVDs that are not clean. I find myself cleaning almost every DVD before I play it.

Sorry  , if I misunderstood your original problem!
