Room 15x30 with ceiling that slopes from 8 to 15 feet. 119" screen with 720p1080i projector.
Pioneer VSX 1017 reciever
Front speakers older Paradigm 9se on stands
Center Advent
Sub and surrounds from inexpensive infinity HT system.

I have listened to quite a few speakers lately. I always seem to lean towards Klipsh, Paradign or Definitive but always on a budget.
I can spend hundreds but not thousands for pairs of speakers. (grin)

My thoughts are that I need more of a matched sound to fill the room. I actually bought a bose system and brought it home and it was totally lost in my room so i took it back.

I would not mind building on the paradigms but I wondered if anyone had some suggestions. I am assuming that atoms or other smaller cubes are just not enough for the room.

Any suggestions?

Be gentle, I am a newbie ...

I assume your looking for bookshelf speakers. Are you looking for your main 3 L/C/R speakers first. Or the while system including sub and rears? What budget are we working with?

So is it ok to assume that <$1000 is your budget for two fronts?

I was thinking that I would keep the Paradigm
9s as front speakers and add speakers to build a full 7.1 system. I don't mind spending 500 for a sub or a pair of speakers just as long as I can add more that will all sound good together with the Paradigms I have or just starting over.
thanks for your quick replies.

Save your hundreds and buy one pair at a time. If you wanted to continue with Paradigm you could pick up a center, then surrounds and then go back and upgrade your mains.

If you want Paradigms on a budget you could look either at the Rocket 850 or the Axiom M80. Both are said to have a similar sound to the Studio 100 at a much lower price.

Probably the best thing to do is listen to some mains, find a sound you must have and set your budget and time frame from there.

Got distracted and missed a couple of posts. Go to a Paradigm dealer and see what they recommend for a center that might match with the 9s.

Not to turn this into a Rocket vs. Axiom thread, so I am just going to make one comment about this. But from what I understand (never hearing the Axioms) they are 180* from one another in sound. So how can they both sound like the Studio series?

for timbre match it is good to keep your fronts and center the same. Therefore, a CC-290 or CC-390 would be good.

The other speakers : sub and surrounds don't have to match the Paradigms.

Good subs are SVS or Hsu. A good SVS is the PB12-NSD ,$599 http://www.svsound.com/products-sub-box-pb12nsd.cfm Then depending on what you like there are many surround speakers you can add. Remeber, surround are not your main sound just enhancement of the main sound

If you want to stick with Paradigm you can go with ADP-190s or ADP-390s.

Good luck !

IMO my recommendation is to research Audiogon, Ebay, and Craigslist to see what 9se's are selling for. I would then sell your 9se's, and put that cash with the cash you have to a set of Studio mains. Again JMO.

And what is it about your Paradigm 9se's that you don't like? Or is it another part of your system?

Paradigm

I certainly appreciate the posts. The local audio shop where I bought the Front Padigms is still in business with limited hours so I will try to get in touch with them about add-on options. Adding a paradigm center and filling in with other good non-paradigms is a good start.
You guys certainly helped ... thanks.
