Well i have a home theater system. A jvc thd-50. I want to change my subwoofers for a jbl one i saw on amazon. I want to know if I can even do that. Just change the sub just like that. I don't know much about this so if someone can help that would be great.

Hey, welcome to the forum!

The answer is "maybe." That JVC unit has a passive subwoofer, so the receiver unit is powering the sub. The receiver doesn't have a line-level subwoofer output, only speaker-level outputs.

Which JBL are you looking at? You can just give us the model number, and we can look it up.

From what I can see, that unit uses a passive sub with the amp built into the receiver. The unit uses just speaker wire to connect the sub to receiver. There's no regular RCA sub output to connect a traditional powered sub. I imagine that if the new sub has speaker level inputs, you would be able to connect it that way. But you would be using the new sub's amp, just feeding a signal to the sub from the receiver's amp. Should work, as long as the speaker level connections are present on the new sub.

Yep, that should work. The JBL has speaker-level inputs, so you could run the speaker wire from your JVC receiver to the JBL - just like you would run it to the sub that you have now. You could use either the left or right inputs - shouldn't matter. You'd want to set the LFE switch on the back of the JBL so that it doesn't use it's own internal cross-over because your receiver will be doing that already.

great! how r the specs of it. You think it would produce better bass and clearer sounds?

Better than the JVC? Oh, I have no doubt about that! There are a lot of people on Amazon that liked it, so it seems like a nice one. If you ask if there are better subs out there for $200, that's a big can of worms around here. :D There's always suggestions for subs. In fact, if you look through the subwoofer forum, you'll see a few threads about recommendations for subs in this price range.

do u have any personal recommendations?
I don't have anything else in mind, not in the $200 range. You seem to like the JBL, and it looks like a lot of people are really happy with it. Therefore, the JBL would be my recommendation.

That Sub12 puts out some serious thump - I installed one last month. You probably will not have to run it to its full potential as we had to back it off some and at the price it's extra nice.
