Axiom M22 v2 vs. QS8

Would the M22's be good for a surround speaker or am I better off with the QS8? I'll be listening to music as well as HT viewing/gaming, probably more music, 60/40 . I just want to know what to pair the M60's with:D (which I may be purchasing after I audition them against the Paradigm Monitor 11's, or maybe the M80's:confused:)

Also, with the QS8's, they are 6 ohm. I have a Sony STR-DA7ES receiver, will there be any problems pushing these? I think I know the answer but I want to make sure. These will be my first set of qaulity speakers.

current fronts - 20 year old Kenwood "digital" speakers (thats what's on the front:D, my pop gave them to me) with a 12" woofer, 5" mid, and a 2" tweeter.
current surrounds- Polk audio Rti 25's
center - CSi25
10" KLH woofer from Costco (hey, it still sounds good)

Time to upgrade! I'll put the old stuff in my bedroom;)

the QS8 would be a much better way to go for a surround speaker. They are both excellent but are both made for different purposes.

If your planning on keeping the Sony Reciever you'll probably want to stick with the M60's You'll be fine running the QS8 on it but I would not want to use it with the M80 as they are 4ohm. The fact that it has a 4/8 ohm switch says all there is to say about the reasons why.

Would an amp work with my Sony? I've never really had a seperate amp and receiver so I'm not really sure how it works. Let me know if I'm right, basically I would get an amp, or two monoblock amps, and run the speaker wire from the receiver to the amp and then to the speakers. I really like the M80's but don't know if it is even worth getting an amp to push them with my receiver. Guess I just need to upgrade more stuff:D

Your reciever has preamp outputs so yes you could use an additional external amplifier. You would need just a set of left and right rca cables that would go from the preamp outputs for the left and right channel to the power amp's inputs. Then you would run the speaker wire from the external amp to the speakers.

On the back of the reciever it says 4-16 ohm speakers, But because it has that switch for 4 or 8 ohms kind of tells me it may have problems driving the M80's to reasonable levels. You wouldnt be able to use them to their fullest with that reciever.

Many of the people who have the M80's in a home theater setting do use external amplification do get the most out of their systems, But there are also alot who just use their recievers. Personally if its between upgrading your reciever or buying an external amp I would go the external amp route because in the end your still going to end up with better amplification going that route.

I would go with the QS8 for surrounds as well. My unserstanding is that surround sound is meant to be more distributed and the QS8s do that very well. For the most part you can't tell that they are on, but they add real dimensionality to music.

I would post your question about the receiver directly on one of Axioms forums. There are a lot of very knowledgable people there who can help you out.

If you can swing it, the M80s are great. I did an a/b comparison of the M60 and 80 and the M80 sound a little better across the spectrum: deeper bass, and more detail in the mids and trebble.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like I have some auditioning to do. I went and listened to the Paradigm Monitor 11's, but for a little more, I can get the
M80's. This will be my first pair of "audioholic" speakers and I want to get the most bang for the buck. I believe the QS8's will be a def buy;)
