now with 502 posts, I'm a Sr. Audioholic!!!!! Whooo HOOOO!!!!!

Seriously though, looking at that number, it kinda donned on me just how much I've benefitted from this group of great people. I need to give a big shout out to everyone on the board for helping me get back up to speed. It's amazaing how much things had changed in just the 5 or so years of being out of the loop and it was hard having to ask so many questions about what had become just basic everyday knowledge. You guys have the patience of Jobe and I'm doing my best to help field the routine questions from the newer members just like you did for me.

You guys have saved me a ton of money and aggrivation and helped steer me to my existing system that I just got together a short time ago. It's given me and my family a ton of good times already with many more to come!

Chris, glad to have you here and glad that it's helping you out! I was gone for most of those six months, so when I came back, you already had your system. It was nice to see the end result.

As for me: Six months ago, I was also a moron...and some things never change.

It's funny how conceptually this stuff is very easy and straightfroward, but once you have to put it together, the nuts and bolts of this stuff can really throw in a bunch of obstacles.

One of my other hoibbies is BBQ... smoking actually... and it's kinda the same thing. Easy on the surface, sometimes difficult in appplication and there's always something new to learn no matter how many times you've done it.

I hear ya, Chris. One of my other hobbies is sitting around. Easy on the surface...well, okay, that one doesn't really have any hidden layers of difficulty.

LOL, this forum hasn't cost me too much money yet.... I'd say the savings in items bought offsets the amount of gear purchased :)

You guys have saved me a ton of money
:D:D I wish I could say the same. :D:D

This forum has caused me a ton of $$.:D:D
That was my first reaction, too. When I came here, all I wanted was something better than Bose. I'd never heard of Dynaudio, SVS, HSU, Algolith, Velodyne, Panamax, or Era, but now they are all just like old friends. All that and I never thought I'd ever own a gaming system, but the PS3 is just such a neat little device...

Wait a minute, exactly how did this forum save you any money????

Hey Chris, first I like your attitude, willingness to help and your useful information!

I am somewhat of a gourmet cook and I also love to B-B-Que. Look at this cooker, if you are ever thinking of replacing yours. It smokes or grills outstanding and you can cook a little or a whole lot, real easily. I just bought my second one; the first one lasted 27 years :p

Geez. The model 132 is $2,000!

I don't even think twice about a $2K audio/video component, but a cooker?:D

I guess you gotta have cooking as a hobby.:D

I think my BBQ cooker is around $150.:D

Of course, I only use it like once a year.:D

There's a real cult following for those units. I don't know what my wife would do if I even mentioned getting another cooker. Right now, I have that pro grade Brinkman in the picture which weighs about 350 pounds, a gas grill, and an Big Green Egg. I'm actually getting ready to build an outdoor kitchen with built-in grills. When I put the ht in, I walled up one one of the triple glass doors so now I have the perfrect wall space to put in a nice outdoor kitchen/bar setup. I'll likely sink my Big Green Egg in it and get a new gass top from either Viking or DCS. That's the goal anyway.

As far as smoking, after about a year, I finally got the smoker down pat!

It's like any other hobby... you just get into it. I've gotten to be a pretty serious cook over the years. I've taken lot of classes and really pushed the grill thing to the limits. I've made everything from the normal burgers to chocolate cake and creme brule on the grill. I just got kinda bored with it. I decided to take a step backwards in a way and got the smoker. I found that it's really an art of sorts. You can employ all kinds of gadgets and technology, or keep it basic. You can get technical or simple... it's really up to you. I get great satisfaction of cooking on this simple big barrel of steel. It's like cooking in the most basic way. It's just you and your fire and you ability to control it. It's a lot of fun.

I got the Big Green Egg because while it's a great smoker in it's own right, the real bonus is that it can get incredibly hot - close to a 1000 degrees. Every now and then we'll buy some serious steaks online from Lobels and have at it. Cooking a steak that way completely changes things. It's a whole new experience. That's why fine steak houses like Morton's, Ruth's Chris, and Bearn's cook at such high temps.

Thinking about it... I do need to find some cheaper hobbies!

And by the way I bought the $999 cooker at a 25% discount.

I like it because you can raise and lower the grill while you cook.
It has a channel the drains the grease
Has easy to regulated metal flaps for air control.
Has a heat deflector for true smoking.
Is for the tried and true hickory and charcoal chef.
Has a large easy to clean cooking surface.

... and most important the wife said why don't you buy the Hasty Bake, you wouldn't be happy with the $150 cooker :) to repalce you old Hasty Bake

Okay -- July 4 German meal - smoked pork tenderloin with Raspberry Chipoltee sauce, Hot German potatoe salad, saurkraut, cinimanon applesauce, fried egg plant and some ice cold beers!

My friends just can stand it when my green chicklet reputation sometimes goes to two greens LOL. It just doesn't bother me anymore. :)
