Hello all. I was just given a Bose Acoustimass AM500 passive "bass module" and and im experiencing problems hooking it up to my receiver. I have my L and R speaker wires coming from speaker channel A on my receiver which are connected to the L and R inputs on the bass module. then I have speaker wire from the outputs on the bass module running to my klipsch fronts. My problem is when both L and R inputs on the bass module are hooked up, the bass module makes berely any sound and sounds "distant". But When I disconnect a wire from the input on the module, then the module makes bass, but I get sound only from one front speaker. How do I properly set this thing up?

Also, there is an impendace switch on the back of my receiver that says "A or B 4 ohm min A+B 8 ohm min", then one that says "A or B 6 ohm min A+B 12 ohm min". Which setting should I use? My bass module says 6 ohms and my klipsch are 8 ohms.

Ok, I managed to get the sub and two fronts working by connecting the front speakers to the reveiver (not through the bass module), then also connecting the inputs from the bass module to the channel A. It sounds like everything is working properly. So I guess my only question now is what should I have the impendance switch set to?

The F3 of your klipsch is around 45 hz and the Bose was measured at around 41hz, both with similar output. I wouldnt even mess with the bose, as it could end up muddying the sound as to the crossovers in module were implemented for their "cube" speakers. IMO your better off without or adding a new "sub".

The klipsch arent going through the modules' crossovers, they are hooked up straight to the receiver. And actually, the bose seems to be half way decent and I can hear it extend much lower than the klipsch alone. As far as muddying the sound, Its seems minimal and there isnt any boomieness or over emphasis. And I dont use EQ or tone controls at all.

That is the incredibly confusing way that manufacturers use to tell you that you can use 4 Ohm minimum speakers on either A or B but if you are going to use A+B each pair must be 8 Ohm minimum. A+B are wired in parallel so when both sets are on you have a 4 Ohm load and it can handle a 4 Ohm load for one pair of speakers (A or B). Likewise, for the 6 Ohm setting.

You can leave it at the 6 Ohm setting but it only applies if you have the front speakers on A and the bass module on B (or vice versa) and set A+B to hear them both.
