HSU VTF-2 MK3 or SVS PB10NSD

Hi,

I got paradigm monitor 7 mains, CC-370 center and mini-monitor surrounds
and yamaha rx-v995 receiver.
I have around $500 budget for a subwoofer. This will be mainly for movies
and some music (75/25).

Since my budget is around 500 I am considering one of these subs
HSU VTF-2 MK3 or SVS PB10NSD

Since there is no way for me to hear them before buying, I would like
some advice.

I realize that it's a bit outside your budget, but the HSU VTF3 MK3 is now on sale for $629, and it seems to be getting good marks all the way around (Hometheatershack.com, Craigsub's subwoofer rankings, Sound and Vision mag, etc.).

I would probably lean towards the VTF-2 (or 3) because they are 12" subs. The PB-10 is an excellent sub, but if you are going to go for it, might as well just take one small extra step and get the VTF-2.

Thanks guys.. After seeing your replies and after reading more about
the HSUs I just ordered a vtf3 mk3. i didnt wanna kick myself later on
for not getting a more powerful HSU sub bcos I got a huge living area.

Mine took less than a week and I also live in California. I got the HSU 2.3 and love it (but it is big). I think you are going to be very very happy.

Hi guys,

Finally the vtf-3 mk3 sub arrived... It sounds amazing out of the box.
But I may have to get rid of it because it is HUUUGE.. My wife is pretty pissed
that I have a big ugly box in the room. I did a lot of research before
getting this sub but didnt check the dimensions. I think the SVS may work
out better for me. I live in SF bay area, calif. I paid around 750 for it
incl shipping and taxes. If any of you are interested in buying it and wanna
save some money, I can ship it to you. If you are in SF bay area, you may
get an awesome deal. Let me know what you wanna
offer. I can send it back to HSU but I will be losing 150 in roundtrip shipping.

Here is a tip, the SVS ported subs are not exactly small either. I ended up getting the SVS SB12-Plus because of the smaller sealed design and a good size to performance ratio. The relatively small size (13" square) and real wood veneer give it a higher WAF rating for the living room HT.

Another option is to convince the wife that the new sub is a good end table!

Good morning Metallidud,

What enclosure size are you looking for? The VTF-2 Mk3 is significantly smaller than the VTF-3 Mk3, only 15" wide and 23" deep, so two inches less wide and deep in comparison. If you would like even smaller, check out the VTF-1, which is only 14" wide, 18" deep, and about 19" tall. Smaller yet? Then we have the STF-1, which is only 11" wide, 16" deep, 19" tall.

The VTF-2 Mk3 will do a nice job filling rooms up to 4500 ft^3, the VTF-1 up to about 3000 ft^3, and the STF-1 up to about 1500 ft^3.

I live in Clovis, CA and might be interested in taking it off of your hands. I am currently down to the SVS PB-12 NSD or the VTF-3 MK-3 and saving a little cashola might make it an easier decision. Let me know ASAP.
