looking for a center speaker

I am upgrading to home theater. I have about 15 year old klh floor speakers with two 12" woofers in each and american acoustic 80 watt bookshelf speakers. It's not in the budget currently to replace those with new so how should I spend my money currently on a center speaker and sub?

I am purchasing a Denon avr788. I have budgeted $500 currently to spend on a center speaker and sub. At a later date I can upgrade my older speakers. I've been told that for the center speaker I should match to a cone like the klh so they recommended a polk cs2. I was told not to get a klipsch because that has a horn tweeter. Is that good advice or should I go with a center that has horn technology knowing that in the future it's a wise idea to replace the floor speakers? No problems with the floor speakers as they sound fine at the old house, however now I refinished my room to 22x26.

What are you thoughts on a new center and sub? Is that a fair budget? Am I going about it wrong and should I go with 2 new floors and a center and worry about a sub at a later date?

I would only buy a center channel that matches to mains that you are sure that you will be getting.

Personally, I'd blow it all on the sub. Your room is not small.

I just got home now and the guy at the store was wrong about the KLH's, I just checked and they have a horn tweeter.

Run Phantom center and get a beefy sub for now, you can get away with a non-matched center if you are careful when choosing and audition its performance in your own room,m most who suggest a matched center is the only way to go couldnt pass a blind folded test with a well thought out non matched center no matter how hard they try to convince you they can.

What are your thoughts on the following centers.
Klipsch CS-52 or CS-62, C3, phase tech V6, and dc tfe60c. They were all at different stores so it's hard to compare which is better.

The phase tech was hooked up with their V10 and I really liked them as well. May have to save up some extra cash and get rid of the KLH's.

I have heard both the rc-52 and rc-62. The rc-62 is pretty huge (too big for my small apartment) and in my opinion sounds similar to the 52. I personally only listened to them plugged into a DVD player and heard no music but I really liked the sound. My impression was a very clear and accurate sound. You could easily separate every sound on the DVD track. Not sure why everyone hates on the horn sound of Klipsch. Maybe I need to listen to some music at high volume but I haven't heard anything I didn't like.
