Hi All,

I have a Sony MHC WZ8D mini hifi system with dvd and 5.1 out.
As it comes with no subwoofer, a few weeks ago I bought a sony SA-W2500 sub.
I enabled the sub in the system's menu.
I connected the sub but no output. at the highest level I barely hear something like coming from far away.
I tried with 5.1 dolby encoded dvd movies, I also tried with Prologic and Prologic II on CD audio. Nothing.
If I connect the subwoofer to the line out (left or right) I get full signal, but I am not so happy because line out does not benefit from level adjustment and I have to use the level on the sub.

Any idea on this?
Thanks

Make sure all speakers are set to small and try it again. Some of those systems are goofy the way you have to set them up in order to send LFE to the sub only.

Might need a subwoofer preamp?

Hi, thanks for you response.
Unfortunately this sony system does not have speaker size setup as it is designed for the speakers it came with. It has only speaker level setting (db). I wonder if it might be necessary to add a preamp to the subwoofer output. In the system's specs it says that the output is 1V at 1k but I could not find in the subwoofer's specs what is the line level.
As an additional info they say in the system's specs that it would generate sub woofer output even if LFE signal or Sub channel is not present.

There must be a way to set the LFE output level someplace. There has to be some sort of speaker set up menu. Look at the manual carefully. 1 Volt full modulation is standard line level by the way.

Finally happy

Indeed in the speaker settings there was the individual speaker level setting that I ignored earlier. Now I set the subwoofer amplification to +10db and then I had signal coming out.
Thanks alot for your help.
