I just purchased my new reciever which is HDMI 1.3 ... the question is, if my BLU-RAY player is only 1.1 or 1.2 will it be able to interface with my new reciever or am I SOL???

I am not to familiar with how the HDMI versions interact with each other so I guess I am looking for some kind of input on how they work together in newbie terms!

Should work fine, the HDMI 1.2 source just won't be able to send out HDMI 1.3 stuff the the receiver.

Thanks Seth,

If that is the case it sounds like it is better to have a higher grade HDMI reciever than DVD or otherwise... rather than a 1.3 DVD trying to send a signal to a 1.2 reciever... that is good, assuming I am right, I will be able to sleep better tonight... I bought a Panasonic Blu-ray DVD with my TV, I am just not sure what rating HDMI it carries.

You will have to run audio separate

HMDI is an evolving spec and not all vendors adher to the orignial specs.

However, what has bceome the defacto stadard apparently is that HDMI 1.3x will pass both audio and video while HDMI 1.1 and 1.2 will pass video only.

Your setup will work fine on the video, but you need to plan to have separate cables to bring DVD audio into your new receiver. Then you will be fine ;)

Agree with you Pyrrho,

it's important to highlight that on the HDMI realm there are several OPTIONAL FEATURES,though. That means it's up to the manufacturer to adopt them or not. One good example is the Pioneer 1017 AVR (among several others, ranging between the mid to low end models) as it's equipped with HDMI, but it's a VIDEO SWITCHER ONLY; so in that case, an additional digital coax and/or digital optic cable will always be necessary to get the audio out.

Regards, Chuck.
