Need some help/advise! I have a carpeted family room in my basement, 17ft. x 18ft. w/8ft ceiling and fairly closed off to the rest of the basement and I'm looking for my 1st subwoofer. I am somewhat limited by my "better half" who is OK with it as long as I keep the sub small. I have a $500-$600 budget and I've got my eye on 2-3 subs. I listened to the Def Tech supercubeIII and like it! I've also listened to the Martin Logan Dynamo but the sales rep wouldn't put it in the forward firing position so I really didn't get a good listen. Also I've read that the Sunfire D-8 is pretty good although I believe that sub has been discontinued. 70% movies, 30% music. Are these subs big enough for this room? Any opinions or experiences with these subs would be greatly appreciated!

Are you completely opposed to internet direct vendors? Your possible choices will greatly increase (SVS, Epik, HSU, eD).

I agree here totally croseiv. One other I liked to add is Outlaw Audio. Right now the LFM-1Plus is till on sale for $499 for one OR two for $899. I have one and just ordered a second. Good luck in your decision.

Cheers,

Phil

No, not opposed at all and I know the SVS and HSU have excellent reviews but they aren't small subs by any means. I need to check out Epik and eD...not familiar with them. Thanks for the reply!

The SB12-Plus is about 13" cubed and weighs a mere 40 pounds. It would run about $150-$200 more (depending on wood finish vs basic black) than your stated budget. I have one in a 16 x 18 x 9 room and I think it works quite well (although SVS suggested two).

It fits into the decor pretty well and I don't have to call a friend to move the damn thing.

Would the BC part of your BCguy name refer to British Columbia?

I agree with the SB-12 Plus. Small size and should have no problem with a room that size, though with an almost square footprint (room), good bass may be an issue.

Thanks MDS...with the price of this sub I guess I never checked into it! If I can come up with alittle more $, that may be the way to go. Reviews on that sub look great too!
