I'm upgrading my system so my question is "seperates or receiver" . The power amp i'm looking at is "Sherbourn 7/2100 (200wpc x 7)
The pre-pro is undecided possibly Krell HTS 7.1 i was considering Rotel RSP-1098 .

My other option is a high end receiver Rotel RSX-1067

Your assistance / knowledge is appreciated

Why are you looking at these older products for pre amps and receivers. None of them employ any kind of HDMI scheme to connect to newer components. I wouldn't be considering any of them to be perfectly frank.

As to whether or not a receiver is better than separtes, you find many opinions on that. I use a modern receiver with 3 channels of outboard amplication. I have contemplated on several occasions selling my amps and just going with the receiver. However I am reluctant to give up the extra power.

What speakers are you driving, its impedance, sensitivity, your listening distance and levels are needed.

I have started with separates, went with a receiver by itself, then added a separate 200wpc amp to it, which gave me a huge boost in sound quality. Now I have come full circle & am back to all separates. I will never go back to a receiver by itself. For ME the separates have superior sound.

If you want to have all the latest & greatest technology, get a receiver that has preouts & get the 200wpc amp to add to it.

If you don't need all the latest & greatest, get the separates you are looking at & don't look back.

Best answer yet.

I couldn't have said it better myself. I'm glad I didn't have to.

cfrizz is right on the money. He has described the exact path for so many of us. His conclusions are right on the money. Your answer from this point, only you can answer. Good luck.
