Just dusted out my reciever

I just cleaned out my Yamaha ax-592 reciever with some compressed air. The dust was pretty caked on from the previous owner and Im pretty sure it had never been cleaned before. Now It runs much, much cooler. And it might be the placebo effect, but I think it sounds slightly better too. Just thought id throw that out there.

Certainly. When it runs cooler, it is not so hot and dry.

Which decals did you use? I have been wanting to increase my horsepower. I am also wondering how I can increase fuel efficiency, what tweaks can I do for that?

I just went to Pep Boys and got all the logos I could find of random parts manufacturers, so far it's been working out great, but for fuel efficiency, I hear those huge spoilers help out.

I replaced my cars ignition wires with monster reference cables I got some serious horsepower now!!

Im going to try and put a pipe, autozone cool air intake, and a valve cover breather filter thingy on my 1990 civic that has ****ed up ignition, piston rings, suspension, and a slipping clutch. Then I will put "Type R" stickers on the back windows and paint the rest of the car primer gray. Next, Im gonna put 2 12's running 2000 watts and blow them the first day on the bass testing CD I have, then deny that it sounds bad and the hatch is rattling like crazy. My frequency response will then look like a cliff, which to me, "hits hard".

Ah, you've zeroed in on that often overlooked effect of dust impedence. The more dust, the more the internal interconnects and wiring is weighed down, therefore proportional changes in cable geometry, dialectric properties, not to mention a handful of ticked off electrons that find themselves choked up and unwilling to pass through the haze, turn around and head back which induces strong eddy currents along the signal path, lowering the SNR, raising temperature among the internal components and wreaking havoc with your system's lower end frequency response. Don't worry, thousands of competent engineers are hard at work on this problem at Monster Cable's Dust Prevention division.

Dirt typically acts as insulation on heat sinks and such, so it makes sense that it would run cooler clean than very dirty. But hearing a difference is extremely unlikely, to say the least. This is, as has already been suggested by others, very much like the way so many people feel that their cars run better after having been washed. This is simply human nature, not better performance.

Still, it is good to carefully clean something like that that is very dirty, as running hot will likely shorten the life of the unit.

LOL! Careful, they might sue you for doing that...or even saying it.

I spent about 2 1/2hrs doing the whole clay, polish, glaze and wax on my car this weekend and it looks great and I have to say it IS faster too!! Slippery.... No really....

Just think how well it would run if you had it a bit closer to the work area, near or on the car's dash or center console. Not sure if it would work from the back seat, you may block the magic.

by the way, you'd be surprised the range of effectiveness of those Airborne tablets.

A buddy of mine has a relatively old RPTV and it started to give him problems as well as static. The company said they would come out to repair it, but the first thing he should try was to pull off the back and vacuum/dust it to see if it helped. He said there was a TON of dust in there, and it did actually almost completely resolve his issues (though other issues were likely not related to the dust).

I tried using a power inverter to power the Radioshack clock inside the car, but I was getting some type of interference interference, as I was told by Robert Harley. That man is a genius. The things that guy knows completely overwhelms me. I can only hope to be as great a man as he is.
