I didn't think it would be long before high def started to replace SACD/DVD-A and here it is. I think I will have to pick this up just to hear it.... Price isn't too bad. Currency converter says 189NOK, or $37USD (not including shipping), which isn't too bad since you get a hybrid SACD and the BD in one package.

The world's first music Blu-ray is made in Norway

TrondheimSolistene celebrate their 20th anniversary with a recording the sound quality of which is guaranteed to surpass anything you've ever heard before. DIVERTIMENTI was recorded by an ensemble on top form, and you can hear it. Every instrument is so clearly placed in the sound that you can actually envisage each individual musician. The recording, made in the wonderful acoustics of Selbu church in Norway, has a distinct, unique quality; making full use of the Blu-ray format this remarkable performance by TrondheimSolistene offers a superlative auditory experience. For those who haven't yet acquired the hardware we've included a hybrid SACD which will play on conventional stereos and computers. The Blu-ray is fully compatible with Sony's PlayStation3.

DIVERTIMENTI is produced by Lindberg Lyd and released by 2L, a Grammy nominated record company renowned internationally for its uncompromising focus on audiophile quality. 2L has previously released TrondheimSolistene's MOZART (2L38SACD) - a disc that was declared a "Record To Die For" by Stereophile magazine and which received a Norwegian recording industry Spellemann prize.
Music label 2L celebrates its fiftieth release with DIVERTIMENTI and is the first record company in the world to combine a hybrid SACD with a Blu-ray "music only" disc in the same package. Since all the various formats in this production are derived from the same high resolution source (5.1 channel DXD, 24 BIT 352.8kHz) the product, as well as the musical pleasure derived from it, sets a unique standard for equipment manufacturers and HiFi magazines the world over.

Hybrid Super Audio-CD 5.1 SURROUND + STEREO produced in DXD (Digital eXtreme Definition).
This compact disc looks like a normal CD and plays on all standard players and computers.
- Ordinary CD (16 BIT / 44.1 kHz)

Note that it includes a copy on SACD so it's clear which customers they are targeting. :D While I have two players capable of playing SACD's and one SACD/DVD-A I haven't gotten into the multi channel audio as much as I thought. But both formats sound better to my ears in stereo in my two channel setup. I just wish there were more titles to my liking. Lately I've been only buying Hybrid SACD's so I can rip the WAV files.

How can I take these guys seriously when the photo is clearly shopped? They just took the SACD cover art and placed it over a Blu-ray case.

The album graphics seem geniune though.

Yes, shopped, but they probably didn't have it printed yet when they did the page.

What I want to know is when does The Dark Side of the Moon come out on Blu-ray music? Judging by how awesome the SACD version sounds, I'd really like to hear that in TrueHD.

I'm surprised at the lack of concert Blu-rays that are available. I'd buy a ton of 'em if there was anything decent out there. So far, the only one I've bought is AC/DC Live at Donnington. I plan on buying the ZZTop one when that one comes out.

There was a Madonna show on TV last year that was a great show. I'd LOVE to have that on Blu-ray.

Not sure if you're a Dave Matthews fan at all, but the BD release of the acoustic concert he gave with Tim Reynolds is quite good.

Unfortunately, (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it), no.

That is a concert though, and there are a few of those kicking around already. This disc is AUDIO ONLY. Note in the specs that it says the video portion is menus only.

Hmm... so all those 40 GB PS3 owners without SACD playback might be screwed....???

Ah... I have a standalone SACD player so I'm ok.

If they think Classical music is going to drive this then Blu-ray for music is most certainly dead, lol.
HD DVD had a lock (over Blu) on most of the classical music until its demise earlier this year. I've gotten some good deals on some of the Surround Records stuff on Flea-bay. Opus Arte stuff still costs an arm and a leg due to the fact that it's imported. :(

I hope Blu succeeds with this. I'm getting really tired of reading gamer fanboys excited over piles of crap like Jumper and complaining about having to *gasp* read subtitles on movies like The Orphanage while ignoring high art opera, ballet and symphony releases.

It boggles my mind that more bands (or artists as they prefer to be called nowadays) don't put out well done concert discs. I would think every popular band would want to have an awsome disc of one of their best concerts. One of the coolest things about MTV back in the day was the concerts... Journey, Triumph, Reo Speedwagon, etc. I'd buy concert discs all day long.

Why put out a concert disc which will sell for $15-20 when you can sell tickets for an average price of at least $80 a pop!! :D

Music is great whether people like it or not. I get so sick of people who even bother to open their mouths, or type the words, "All the music out now sucks" - or some version thereof.

When it comes to music we all have our tastes and while I may love, or hate, Nine Inch Nails, the reality is that there are a ton of people that love them, and a ton of people that hate them.

So while 'high art opera', may be great for some, it is complete crap to others, and making any judgements against a movie like Jumper, while praising what you love, is insultive to those who feel that what you love is crap, and what you hate is high art perfected.

The difference between a music only BD and a concert BD is nothing. I don't get the point of this thread other than to say "Hey, these musicians couldn't afford videographers". BD has the space and capability for both the lossless audio as well as the video, so if there is no video it's not because it wouldn't typically be there, but leans towards them just not having the budget for the video.

I'm personally, not impressed (regardless of the quality of the music), when a decision is made to leave out something which could so easily be a part of the package. Love or hate the 'bonus material' in a movie, you still expect there to be some on the discs when you get the film. Likewise, when a Blu-ray disc can hold the lossless DTS-MA or TrueHD audio and HD video, leaves out the video, then it isn't 'progression', IMO.

Cool to see, but there's already a lot of music out there (like it or not) on Blu-ray and it's great to hear even more is coming along the pipe.

No.

It looks like it is a SACD and a Blu-ray Disc dual pack, so you get two discs in the box. One which you can play anywhere (SACD hybrid) and one which is Blu-ray and will play back in any BD player including all PS3 consoles.
