anybody heard/used/know of the NAD T785 or T775 receivers or T175 pre-pro?

1) do these process the new audio formats? it says HDMI 1.3 on the tin, but i'm not sure if they process the HD formats.

2) do these upconvert analog signals to HDMI?

3) reliability or known problems? handshake problems?

i'm still looking at Denon for my own use, but this one is for the other HT. (kinda boring to buy the same model)

I checked them out while at a local store recently. I don't have answers to your specific questions, but I find the NAD stuff to be ugly. I much preferred the Cambridge Audio stuff they carry.

I was planning to buy a T785 but then I found a thread on AVSForums. It does not decode the newer hi-def audio formats. I think it would need hardware support which could be done in the future due to its modular construction.

That wasn't the deal breaker, what was is that it wasn't doing a very good job of accepting LPCM over HDMI. There were some firmware updates so I don't know how it's working now. I decided I would be damned if I'd pay $3000 for a receiver to be a beta tester.

As you can see in my sig, I went with a Marantz.

I think the NAD stuff is way to hideous and would not complement your beautiful systems. I really like my Denon and my Yamaha........

Mike, nothing wrong with the tried & true.;) I wish Denon would pull their head out and give us a decent priced pre/pro.

Did you listen to the NAD? I am trying to decide between the t775 and the 8002. How do you like your Marantz?

I have to drive 2 hours to hear either, so I'd like to hear some opinions to hold me over until I have the chance.

I did not listen to the NAD. I would have had to go about 100 miles to find a dealer.

I like the sound of my Marantz but I can't fairly compare it to anything, not even my old Yamaha. My main source is connected through HDMI now where before I was using 5.1 analog connectors. The 8002 has had some positive reviews and I don't remember hearing anything bad from anyone else who owns it.

If you are considering the NAD stuff, I'd do a search over at AVSForums. The NAD discussion was over 40 pages long the last time I looked but it's worth the time to see if it's what you might want before burning a lot of gas.

Thanks. I have been subscribed to both the NAD t775/t785 thread and the Marantz 7002/8002 thread since they were started. I think I'm aware of the issues with each of the receivers, I was just wondering how they sound compared to each other.

I know that I really need to listen to them both myself, I was just looking to hear/read others' opinions first.
