I couldn't resist this deal!
I was expecting a lot more buzz and excitement about this offer... perhaps I missed a thread somewhere where people are discussing it. I know it's RISKY buying speaker systems without having heard them first (and I don't need any reminders about that - hint, hint), but considering the great reviews, I'm willing to take that risk for this kind of offer.
After I placed the order, I got an email from the Audioholics Store informing me that they had run out of the center channel (EF30C) and they offered to replace it with the equivalent RBH TK-515C. I was concerned that the different material used in the 5 1/4" driver would have different sonic properties. One thing I really like about this system is the use of identical drivers in all of the units (with the obvious exception of the subwoofer). I asked if they could ship the remainder of the system now, and send the EF30C when they became available.
They then offered to upgrade all of the EMP system with the equivalent RBH products (TK-5CT, TK-515C, and TK-5C). The RBH PC-10 subwoofer has been discontinued, so the EMP E10s would still be the subwoofer with the system (which I prefer anyway because of the aluminum cone). This upgrade would be at no additional charge - I jumped on the offer! In fact, I'm getting two of the systems because I want to use towers as the right and left surrounds in a 7.1 system as well as the front mains. I like the "7ch stereo" setting for some types of music, especially classical, and I have some very good 5.1 dts music recordings as well. I'm sure there are persuasive arguments that the additional towers are unnecessary, but I have a similar setup now with some Polk Audio products, and I really like the overall sound. Plus, I wanted the additional sub so I could have a 2 sub setup. Granted, I will have a spare center and a spare set of bookshelves, but it's actually less expensive getting two systems than it would be to get one system and buy the additional speakers seperately. I'm really starting to salivate with anticipation. They're scheduled to arrive Wednesday!
