Have you listened to either... I would suggest you do that first and come back and give us your opinion... its really nice when people come and give unbiased reviews of what they heard with the material they brought to audition with as well..

Both companies are very well respected, but have different sound characteristics...

I am a big Paradigm fan, so I would tell you that the Paradigms are the best speaker, but that would be biased and unfair. I have read about alot of Thiel models but not that particular one.

Everyone here would love to hear your thoughts on what you heard... Never buy on anyones suggestion, they are your ears, and everyones are different...

I too am considering the S6's. It's down to the S6's w/sub, or S8's alone. Both Paradigm signatures sound absolutely fantastic IMHO. ..I found them to be exceptionally smooth without sounding etched or bright. ..I detest harsh sounding speakers.

As for the Thiels, I can only tell you that I listened to the 2.3's years ago when buying my current speakers - Vandersteen 3A Sigs. I opted for the Vandersteens because, to me, the Thiels sounded a bit bright.

One other consideration for me is that the Paradigm S6's seem to punch way beyond their weight class in terms of dynamics and sound level. They can play incredibly loud without sounding strained or harsh.

I was recently at a dealer close by and they had Thiels... Dyns as well, but them were mostly a Custom Installer so not really interested in taking on the public market for audition time... but ultimately they had a set of Thiels out on the if you want to call it that "floor".. I found them to be bright as well, and difficult for me to enjoy... more emphasis in the treble/high end and not nearly as prevalent in the mids as I would prefer.

The Vandersteens are super nice sounding speakers... one of the 4 real dealers of speakers had the 3A as well as the 5A's, and they were some truly fantastic speakers... smooth and dynamic... great & unique bass from a floorstander.. but at the same time, pretty much like a fat chick though, don't want that hanging around for your buddies to see... ahh that might have been TMI, any who...

Outlaw Nut & sydney, what are your room sizes.... ?

While the Thiel is a more correct approach to ideal sound reproduction then most speakers including the Paradigm it is a more difficult speaker to mate with other gear and will sound bright, shrill and give fatigue in many circumstances but some really like the hyper detailed sound they offer. I saw the last poster insert the Vandersteen idea which in part shares some ideas Thiel does and I couldnt agree more, from first order cross-overs and phase and time correct performance to minimal baffle design and price this entire line of speakers is a tremendous value and consistant top performer and refrence reviewed gear for folks who know what they want and enjoy the actual performance more than the gear. With models ranging from sub $1K to $17000 for its top of the line model (the top models are powered woofers with built in bass EQ tuning to optimize performance in most any room) they have something for everyone and a line you can grow into as income and performance desire increase.

Yes, Thiels can be bright, if not properly setup, with the right gear.
And if you compare them to Paradigm, then they will really seem bright.
I consider Paradigm to be dull compared to my JBL PT800s and I don't consider the JBLs to be bright at all, just clear.
So how a person describes Thiels, JBLs, Paradigm or any other speaker directly depends on what kind of speakers that person is used to listening to.

That is exactly right....

Everyone's ears are different, and the whole freq. can be accentuated or withdrawn all over the spectrum depending the way that persons ears are made?? if you could say it that way. I have been in a room with 4 people auditioning the same speakers and have completely different feeling about how the sound was conveyed after reviewing what we all sat down, using mutiple choice and essays, explaining what we heard. It was fun...
