I am looking for thoughts on a smaller subwoofer. The mains and CC are Paradigm. Right now I am using an AR sub which serves the purpose but I am just wondering what other choices may be out there that is not big in size or to much cost but would be a step above my $250 AR. The room is not that big so I really don't want to large sized one. Thank you for any input.

If you could give dimensions of your room and a budget range you'll get a lot better responses.

Room size is 23 ft by 12 ft, budget if possible $300 to $400. A little leeway is always possible of course.

Room isn't huge, a good 12" sub would be good, but there are some inexpensive 15" subs out there...

I have a SVS SB12-Plus, which is small and a bit over your budget but its a good powerful sub and worth the extra money, with a good amount of features.

Another good bang for the buck is the AV123 MFW-15 as reviewed by audioholics here.... http://www.audioholics.com/reviews/speakers/subwoofers/av123-mfw-15

The MFW has been getting some really great reviews and was designed by a very highly regarded sub designer, Mark Seaton.... not sure on what the wait is on that sub though.

The SVS subs are generally available next day...

I just came from the SVS site and took a look at the SB12-plus. It does look good alright. Depends if I can say yes to the $ amount. But it is a beauty isn't it. Thank you for the info..

Ya know, you could also do a Kit....

Here is a very well respected company that allows you to put it together yourself. Its a very simple procedure... no different then putting a freakin office chair together... and they are supposed to have excellent SQ.

This gives you more ub for less money..

The HSU VTF-2 is a bit over your budget, but it's a great 12" sub.

The SVS is one of the most recommended brands. I agree with the previous poster/s. The SVS SB 12-plus is an excellent choice both aesthetics as well as sound!

Currely I have subs in my towers ( Def Tech 7002s) and Center ( Def Tech CLR3000) and a small older Def Tec sub, ProSub100. My next upgrade will be a sub either the SVS SB 12-plus or the SVS SB12-Plus or SVS PB13-Ultra.

Enjoy your new low sounds

nice choice but not a step above the ar in cost the op mentioned. Try the mfw15 warpdrive suggested;)

I still think that the Rythmik kit would be a fantastic way to go...

Inexpensive, great 15" driver, really good amp, premade box... PEQ for $500 and some change... whats not to like there...

You are right SB12- Plus too expensive for OP budget

Priced right choices:

SVS PB10-NSD $429 MSRP ($29 over, sorry)
Hsu STF-2 $349 MSRP (for medimum rooms)

Hsu STF-1 $299 MSRP ( for small rooms)

Hsu and SVS are great sounds ! Just remember an inexpensive sub sounds like and inexpensive sub, but that doesn't mean you need a JL Audio FATHOM f113 either :D

Good responses all, this probably won't happen any time soon as things are $ wise. I know I can get a $400 Paradigm sub where I bought my mains and CC. Another thought to consider. But I can't deny SVS does look good. Thank you all.

IMO there are a few really really good performing subwoofers on the market for $599. Saving might be an option for you.

+1....

I like the idea of having multiple subs, but to cut corners by getting cheap ones, you are doing yourself a diservice...

Save your money and do your reading until you can get a really good quality sub, or the bug to upgrade will bite you again later down the line...
