Here's one for you...insanely loud on its own...I swear

So, the wife and I are sitting there last night watching [at a reasonable sound level] Blu Ray Narnia from Netflix. We are mid way through the battle scene when, the sound climbed rapidly to a insanely loud level then triggered the "overload" on the JVC RX 8020V . Quite a shock to say the least. NO, I wasn't sitting on the remote [all the remotes were on the coffee table], and I only had 1 groschl beer. Well I paused the movie, turned the receiver back on, and I think the volume was in the high 50's, we generally do around 30-40, and it goes to 70. Everything seemed to be OK, but watched the rest of movie with finger on the off button on the remote. This ever happen to you?!

This just reminded me of something when I was a young lad...

Our cable company gives out the same remote to everyone in the neighborhood, so my buddies and I would run around the neighborhood and turn off peoples cable or tv's with the remote from outside the window... or the volume change channels... it was so freakin funny.... my buddies and I laughed so hard watching people, as they couldn't figure out what hell was going on....

That is a seriously good prank - I'm suprised I never thought of it back when I was a young hellraiser in my neighborhood.

That reminds me of what the people from gizmodo did at the most recent CES show. They got some device that allowed them to turn off peoples tv's and nobody could figure out what was happening.

Try replacing the batteries in your remote. Some have reported this happening with H/K receivers, where when the batteries die, it inadvertently sent out some volume codes.

I haven't had it happen to me, but a friend did. Mine gives me a low battery indicator long before it actually dies, and when it dies, it dies completely. Fortunately, I don't lose any of my programming when it does die (one of the main reasons why I still use that guy).

I did something like that in high school. All the classes had toshiba TV's so I could sit there in the middle of class with my toshiba remote in my backpack and turn the tv on and stuff and nobody could know who it was or why it was happening

I had to reset my receiver to correct a similar problem. The reset directions were in the manual.

That happens to my H/K AVR-7000 every now and then. Scares the crap out of us.

The batteries were indeed weak, so they have been replaced. Lets hope that takes care of it. Not sure if the heart can take that again.

I used to have a very similar JVC reciever to yours! I cant remember the modle number, but it looked pretty close!

Anyways, something like this happened to me before with that particluar reciever... and I was definatley sitting on the remote!!
