Hi , Im New here, As well as new to the home audio world. First i will tell ya what im running, then ill ask for your opinions. I have a Yamaha
RX-V457 510W (85W x 6) My center channel is a JBL, My surrounds are Klipsch. My rears are JBL towers, use this setup for movies .When partying i switch surround speakers off so not to blow them (again) Anyways i like to use the sub for the bass since my jbl outdoor speakers cant provide no where near enough. My Cerwin Vega CLSC-15S amp is blown i bought this sub off a freind. My questions are,Can this be fixed? If so is it worth it? and what amp would be a good replacement for it? lets say 150 or less? Also i was sitting here thinking do i even need a amp for this sub? I know very little about the workings of subs, speakers so it was just a thought about making this a (passive sub)? Also the sub is in great condition and newer so id like to keep using it till i can talk wife into buying a HSU:) Any thoughts ,comments, and even put downs on my typing skills welcome. Thanks All keep up the good work here i am learning alot here i was lurking for awhile till i decided to join.

Well you need an amp, as your receiver can not drive the sub. Take it in fer service and get an estimate. Then you decide. You will have to pay fro the estimate, as they have to find what is wrong.

Would you just buy a diffrent amp? If so which? Id like to get a little more outta this sub is the reason why im asking. And im kinda freaking out cause i was just gonna private message YOU after reading some of your posts in (How do I get my 6 7" woofers moving?) It appears to me you have great knowledge in subs. Thanks for any info

The problem you will have is doing a neat job. The new amp will have to be fitted to the enclosure with NO air leaks what ever. There has to be a very tight seal.

Your best bet is probably to leave the current amp in place and make another opening for an amp like this, which has almost identical specs to the current one.
