Listening to the opening scene of Underworld on Blu Ray (which I’ve seen 10K times) I was clearly able to distinguish individual sounds I couldn’t pick out on a lesser speaker.
I got you beat here, buddy!

I've seen Underworld & Underworld Evolution 10,001 times!:D

The opening sequence of UW Evolution is 100% awesome!!!:D

Very Detailed sound, indeed!

Speakers sound so different from one make to another but in terms of being neutral, I like the S8. They still don't come close to the 802D or even the 803D. It will be a tough choice for me between the S8 and the 803S. DefTech to me is a couple of notch lower.

Did you listen to v1 or v2? I thought the Signatues crushed the 803D (not really crushed but slightly better). I didn't like the tweeter on the 803D nearly as much as the 'digms with extended listening. A lot of high end speakers are going to beryllium. I liked the 803S, but I don't think it compared to the S8 v2. B&W makes a fine spekaer and I'd be happy to own a set, but I feel the overseas shipping inflates the price of B&Ws too much. I also liked the Dynaudio Coutour 5.4 slightly better than the 803D. With all speakers of this quality you're really splitting hairs.

Comparing Paradigm Sign to 803D's. Hmmmmmmmmm IMO no contest for the 803D's.

At least you spelled the name of the movie right! I tried to make it two words in my post. One of my favorite movies, and I can't spell it right. I need to buy Evolution, I didn't like it as much as the first one, but the soundtrack is superb! The next time i'm in Tulsa I'll have to make the drive to OK City and checkout the system.

No I haven't listened to the V2 yet. It was the original S8 paired with some high powered Anthem amps. Funny it is exactly the 802 or 803D's mid and high that I like most. I have not listened to them with the Krell or equivalent amp but even with the Bryston (forgot the model but it was the one above the 4BSST) and Musical Fidelity (only 150W?X2 I think) they sounded good enough for me. I do agree they seem a little over priced but unfortunately I cannot forget how the violin sounded with with the diamond tweeter, especially when combined with the Marlan head. Had I not auditioned those diamonds I would be more than happy to just upgrade to the S8. In fact between the Sig and the B&W diamonds, it is a subjective thing to say one is better than the other. For me, it is the violin that counts. I listened to enough live concert to know how it should sound.

This a biased oppinion but :D For the money My Paradigm studio 60's and cc690 center were the best speaker purchase I've ever made in my life, I enjoy looking at them almost as I do listing to them and what amazes me the most is how versatile they are as far as sounding equaly as good for music or movies .

You've got to check out the v2. They swithced to the beryllium tweeter and man does it sing! (I sound like a Paradigm salesman). Nice speakers are very subjective, and I can certainly see why you'd like the B&Ws. They were a very detailed speaker.

The Studio's are amazing speakers! Factoring in price they're an outright steal. They're the speaker that made me give up my LSIs forever.

When I owned the LSIs, I always felt the bass slopped up the midrange too much. I liked the tweeter on the LSIs, but I felt the midrange was weak compared to other speakers in their price range.

And I feel just the opposite. Excellent tweeter, and great mids. The low end extension is surprisingly good, and IMO makes this a very well rounded speaker.

But the S8 or 802D are a notch higher in price!!

Maybe so, but the Def Techs are also quite a bit lower in price than the 802D and 803D and somewhat lower than the 803S or S8. I guess to some degree, you get what you pay for.;)

Even the best speakers in the world will sound differently in different rooms and with different preamps/amps/sources.

So a speaker may not sound the best in one showroom, but it may sound the best in another room w/ another preamp/amp.

I guess everyone also has different tastes.

Just because some people say that Def Tech speakers don't have great midrange or high frequencies does not mean others will feel the same.

I think the midrange & high frequency of the BP7000SCs & 7001SCs sound extremely crystal clear.

I've mentioned this before. When my uncle from California came to visit me last Summer, he heard the BP7000SCs for the first time. I was really proud of the awesome bass capability and so I really wanted him to comment on that. But his first impression was not the bass at all. His first words were, "Wow, these speakers sound Extremely Clear!"

Just because they have great bass response does not make them any less in the midrange and high-frequency response. Andrew Robinson also said that the BP7000SCs sounded awesome in the midrange and high-frequency.

Some people think the BP7000SCs sound like they cost $2,000.

Some people (Darryl Wilkinson of Home Theater Magazine and Andrew Robinson of Audio Video Revolution) think the Defintive BP7000SCs sound like they costs $20,000.

Maybe the BP7000SCs sounded great in their rooms and they did not sound great in some other rooms.

But I would like to hear any other professional reviewers say that the B&W 803D or any other speaker sound like they cost FOUR TIMES their prices!

I have 10 bucks saying that you will buy, non-DT speakers within a year.

We on?

Mark Levinson Red Rose Music

**hee**hee

$10 buck is over my limit.:D

My biggest bet ever was $1 buck.:D

I was looking at the Mark Levinson Red Rose Music (ML RRM) Classic Ribbon speakers this morning. They are only $8,000/pr, which is alright. If I get 5 of them, that would be $20,000.

I was also looking at the ML RRM Passion Integrated Amps, which are only $3K each x 3 = $9,000.

The ML RRM M3 Subwoofers are only $4K each.

I was hoping that ML RRM also sold SACD/DVD-A/Blu-ray players, but alas they do NOT. Maybe one day, they will sell a ML RRM SACD/DVD-A/BD player for $3K.

That's only $36K total. My HT piggybank will reach $36K in 8 years.:D

Would like to tell AcuDefTechGuy, you are very polite and gracious with your replys. Also to the person that said, $10.00???? put your money where your mouth is at least $100.00!lo
When I bought my Def7001s, I first listened to them in a forty foot room and they were just about that far apart. In my home they are 12' apart, so they could not be tested properly in there sound room and expect the same results. The true test for me is to see how clear and sharp the mids & highs hung in there at normal pleasent hearing level. Anyone that will play a speaker at a level that would distort the woofer, should see an audiologist on a regular bais, because before long you will not be able to enjoy any sound.
just because you may be a Chevy guy, you do not have to come down on Ford, same with speakers, When I said I want to move up to ParS8, I should really say in price. Now after this discussion I may just keep my Def7001s and buy a new truck (Tacoma)!lo I love these discussions especially when two titans come together on different side of opinion.
