I am in the process of setting up a home theater. My room is ~1900 ft^3 but is ~75% open on one end (open floor plan) which connects to a ~4000 ft^3 dining room/kitchen/living room area.
I have talked with HSU and SVS and they both recommend considering the entire volume because the room is so open on the one end.
My question is this: Is it better to (a) get 1 sub sized for the entire volume and face possible "dead" areas in different seating positions or (b) get 2 subs each sized for half the volume and allow for greater sound dispersion throughout the room?
I am leaning towards option (b) because it would let me get 1 sub now and expand my system when I have some more cash. I am just not sure if my approach on splitting the volume is correct.
For option (a) I have looked at the Axiom EP 350, the HSU VTF-3 MK 3, and the SVS PC-Plus 20-39.
For option (b) I have looked at the Axiom EP 175, the HSU VTF-1 or STF-2, and the SVS PCi 25-31.
Any thoughts, suggestions, recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
