I remember the cartoon from when I was a kid. Unfortunately, I also remember thinking it pretty much sucked. Must be an age thing (I first saw it quite close to the end of my cartoon-watching years.)

My boy (now 7) has me watching with him. Some are pretty good.

Yup, I grew up with Speed Racer, it was a soap opera for kids, like the original Johnny Quest.

I don't even know how you can compare the two. Speed Racer was a silly cartoon, awful first or second generation anime.

Johnny Quest was a superior show with stories that were well-written and are just as interesting today as they were then. I'd rate Quest among the best cartoons of all time.

As far as this movie, the scenes I've seen make it look like a Christmas tree. All bright, annoying colors. Reminds me of a psychedelic Tron.

Great cartoon, I agree. The show is out on DVD now, in case you didn't know. I rented it from Netflix, and it was a good trip down memory lane.

Not altogether, of course. I mostly meant that my days of watching cartoons all morning every Saturday (while eating sugar cereal, naturally) were ending near the time of Speed Racer.
Note: I don't think that the original Warner Brothers cartoons have ever been (or ever will be) outdone.

We aren't talking about Sailor Moon here My kind of stuff is Cowboy Bebop, Lain, Appleseed, Neon Genesis, etc... If you want to see some interesting stuff in the Anime realm on Blu, check out Paprika or Tekkonkinkreet, or even Ghost in the Shell or Innocence: Ghost in the Shell 2.

I just got back from seeing it and it was GREAT!! Totally accurate to the spirit of the cartoon. Music score was also excellent. Warning though. This is a total fan movie. If you are a fan of the cartoon you WILL enjoy it.

Im watching this movie on PPV and i must say......Its pretty bad. I never watched the cartoon series, so im pretty much lost. The visuals are pretty colorful to say the least
