So a couple of missing specs would be helpful.

Regarding the EF30T system.

Are the center and surrounds ported?

Do the surrounds have a keyhole slot or anything for mounting them to an on wall speaker bracket?

Are they shielded?

If the EF30's are shielded like the TK-5CT's (except 8" woofer) how far away from a CRT TV would you have to place the speaker to avoid any damage to the TV(not that I'd love to ruin my TV and be forced to buy a new one)?

Thanks in advance.

I would look at the EF30T or ideally the TK-5C over these - take a look at the rated FR on the EF50T... your crossover setting would have to be at least 100 Hz

To be quite honest I'm quite surprised that AH is recommending those EF50T's.

As long as your using a sub it shouldn't be much of an issue. These speakers are there to appease WAF form factor but still perform admirably according to Tom Andry. Personally I'd recommend running 2 subs side by side to the towers for a more seemless blend with a higher xover frequency.

So with the incredible deal which way would you go for a room 11' X 10'? And would you grab an extra sub with the system?

I want to get the 30s, but my wife may hate the way that they look. The store's return policy says that a restocking fee MAY be charged. How can I find out ahead of time whether or not a restocking fee will apply?

I'd go with the ECA system all mounted on the walls with the matching brackets and add a sub. Place the two subs up front close to the satellites and cross them over at 100Hz.

Use the following guidelines: http://www.audioholics.com/tweaks/get-good-bass/subwoofer-connection-guide

Alternatively you could go with the EF50 system and one subs which would be better for music but may be a bit imposing in such a small room. It all depends on what you are willing to accomodate. Years ago I had an RBH Signature 1266-SE 5.1 system in a similar sized room with a 1010-SE subwoofer and my TV in a closet. It worked by my room was dominated by speakers - the true sign of an Audioholic :D

Go with the 50s and add an extra sub. Don't risk the hassle.

Will I see a decided improvement with the ECA system? I currently have this:
1 Pair JBL HLS810
1 Pair Titan v.2
1 CC-170 v.3
1 PDR10 v.3
RX-V2300

I really want to create a room that has the wow factor and also not be so mismatched.

The ECA system will sound more tonally consistant than what you've got now but the soundstage likely won't be as large.

The EF30T system however will be significantly better than what you have and create that WOW effect and its only $899 shipped with the sub!

you may want to hang on to that sub you have and use dual subs in your setup for added slam and better bass to all your seats.

Do you think those two subs will be able to blend well in that environment? Being mismatched brands and alL? This was my first system and Iam ready to step up to bigger and better things.

SIDE: So given the option of the 30 and 50 you would go with the 30? Can that center keep up?

You are always better off matching subs to fully benefit from modal averaging but I assumed to save you money unless you really wanted to dive in :)

From a performance standpoint, I recommend the 30T system over the 50T system but appearance often guides people over performance. Yes the center will do very well with that setup.

I also recommend you consider a new receiver with Audyssey EQ built in such as a Marantz SR7002, Onkyo TX-SR705 or Denon AVR-2308CI. It really makes it easier to blend large tower speakers with subs if you have active equalization.

Already have the wife convinced to let me get the ONKYO 805. I saw the matching sub is $400. I'm trying to convince her to let me get the speakers while this deal lasts but its like pulling teeth since she knows I'm getting the receiver. I like the idea of sound quality more so than appearance so that is not an issue. I read the review and it seems this deal is absolutely ridiculous.

Cool wife! Yes there is absolutely no margin in the products with a deal like this. Its more of a promotional deal to get the name out and it will be gone by the end of the month.

Greetings. I've been lurking for a while but I finally signed up and this is my first post.

Wow that seems like a good deal. I'm sorely tempted.

Just how much less is that 5.1 system than the similar RBH system?

I'm sure this package will be just great for e.g. Battlestar Galactica but will it also be great for Bach and Mozart?

Eh, it'll probably be fine for my needs. I would love to have a soundproof room with tube audio equipment but..... I live in an apartment in Harlem. Zone 2 is the noisy neighbors next door. Zone 3 is across the street. :D

How would these speakers be shipped? Would I have to make sure I was home when they arrived?

Thanks

The RBH TK-5CT version of the EMP EF30T towers were reviewed on Audioholics and given a terrific review all around. If you poke around the site, you'll see the reviewer's home system is now those very same speakers, so he was clearly impressed.

Here's the review:

For most of the other questions you should probably go through the store site.

I'm sitting here really wishing now was a good time for me to get this system...

I did read that and I was impressed. I don't doubt that the RBH system is top-notch. But it appears that the EMP midrange cones are made of a completely different material (poly graphite instead of "proprietary fiberglass"). how does this affect the sound quality?

The differences in cone material are mostly cosmetic. The EMP/RBH versions are virtually identical sonically.
