Can you 'splain a bit how these are hooked up and how you keep your levels consistent?

I would like for him to explain why he replaced the Acurus/Emotiva combo with three Denon integrated amplifiers. This seems completely lateral to me. I believe he would stand to benefit more from just getting a damn pre/pro and putting the Emotiva amplifier back on duty.

Well, it's pure analog cables for audio (5.1 = 6 cables each for the DVD-5910CI, DVD-3800BDCI, & HD-XA1 = 18 coaxial cables + 3 HDMI for video).

The Top PMA2000 is for the Front Left + Right.
The Middle PMA2000 is for the Center + LFE.
The Bottom PMA2000 is for the Surround Left + Right.

I use a DTS CD 5.1 calibration disc to level match each channel. Each channel is set to 65 dBC (60 dBA).

I use Source Direct for the DVD-5910, DVD-3800BD, & PMA2000s.

Now, now, Seth!

Switching from one Preamp/Amp system to another is always a lateral move IMO. You can only move up or down with speakers. That MPS-2 is history. They sell like pancakes!

So each of your sources has an integrated volume control that you use as a master volume control? I take it that you cannot have any broadcast sources connected to this system?

The Denons (PMA2000IVR) sound exactly the same as the Acurus (RL11 + 200X3) and the Emotiva (MPS2) IMO. I cannot tell one ounce of difference. They all sound extremely clear. The BASS is still tremendous and tight. The midrange and treble are still crystal clear.

Even my volume knob is at the same position, which is approximately the
8:30 o'clock position, which produces a sound level of about 90 dBC or 85 dBA when listening to music or watching movies. The 9 o'clock just produces too high a volume for me, which is over 90 dBC.

The DVD5910 is hooked to the CD Inputs of all three PMA2000s.
The DVD3800BD is hooked to the DVD Inputs of all 3 PMA2000s.
The HD-XA1 is hooked to the AUX-2 Inputs of all 3 PMA2000s.

I can hook up the TV or Radio Tuner to the PMA2000 (Tuner Inputs).

After volume matching, the volume dial of each PMA2000 ends up being at the 8 o'clock position, which is around 90 dBC or 85 dBA.

Absolutely no bass management or speaker management - all speakers are set full range 20Hz-20kHz + Subwoofer.

It's pretty much all Analog. With Source Direct, the signals are converted by the DACs straight to Analog, instead of going to PCM (digital) first -- I mean unless the signal is already in PCM to begin with as in the lossless LPCM on blu-rays.:D

Do I understand you correctly? To change the volume, you always have to turn three volume knobs? Nor do you have the ability to listen to Cable/Sat in surround sound, since no tuner has multi-preouts, only digital surround outputs?

You could turn all 3 volume knobs. Or you could go to the Player's Setup and Decrease the Volume level of speakers.

There are no digital I/O on the PMA2000 since it is purely analog. So you are correct, if the Cable/Sat only has digital outputs and the regular stereo L+R outputs, then I can only listen in Stereo, instead of Surround Sound:D

Sounds like a hassle, like Seth says, huh?:D

Frankly, yes. And expensive. And limiting. And cable intensive.

Honestly, I think Seth is right on the mark. But it's a good thing that your system is designed to please you and not Seth or me. Only one vote counts in that democracy.:p

Ok DT...you have completly lost your mind...

I guess I will have to make a trip up to see you and check out this step which is in all words: side-ways, silly and backwards.

Bottom line is that it looks great, you love the way it sounds and it is something different to see and talk about. I for one say, more power to you! I love it!

Thanks, Greg.

Been busy with the new Job?

Glad to see that someone is actually working, unlike me.:D

You know what happened to my old audio rack?

It is now sitting in my 6 yr old daughter's room with barbie dolls on it.:D

Yeah, getting new stuff is so fun, it's crazy.

My wife got "suspicious" last night and said, "Did you just buy some new electronics or something? Why are you listening to all that music lately?":D

She does NOT even KNOW I made the huge change!!!

Priceless!!!:D
