It has nothing to do with driver size. It's all about the quality of the design of the subwoofer. Driver, Crossover, Amp, and Enclosure.

A nice pair of Studio ADP-590 would improve your movie experience IMO.

Also is there any way to move those Studio 60's out, and toe them into the listening area? I see you have a audio rack on the left side. Move the audio rack closer to the television and the speaker out. Move right speaker equal distance, (or close to it) if possible. You might also want to pull them out a little from the rear wall. Something you might want to experiment with.

I think velodyne has a pretty good design but im far from really being well versed on the audio seen, i've been around it for years and really enjoy music and movies now at a different level but really not until the last few years can I really consider myself a true enthusiast with beer breath and champaign taste lol . But im sure theres subs out there that sound better. I really want to get some adp 590's thats next on my list once I build up my audio fund again .Thats a great idea also about moving my speakers farther apart, the next time I have to get behind my audio rack I just might do that, as far as moving the speakers farther away from the wall I probably only have a few inches to work with because im already only about 8 ft away from the seating area but that might make a difference and im willing to try and experiment, Thankyou for the advice its greatly appreciated .

I have the exact same sub as the poster (DPS-10) and all I can say is "it does the job". I don't find quality in that sub. Under-powered, 28hz lowest frequency response, a lot of port noise on high SPLs. Since I've changed with a ESW-V10, I can clearly say that quality in a sub is VERY important, both in movies and music.

I don't know who said it, but size isn't everything. Quality prevails. I really thought my 2500 cu.ft. room (with opened archway) needed a 12". In fact, this 300watts 10" really does the job at shaking it. What you will get by going bigger is extension. But a well-built subwoofer will blend better with the rest of your system.

While the sub "may" be the weakest link, it is still a great system. Those mains could probably get by without that sub.

I'll say this though, for me, going from an okay sub (PSW650) to a very good sub (PB13-Ultra) was a profound improvement, probably the largest single improvement I've ever experienced. There's no substitute for quality bass. The PSW650 could hit 25 Hz, but being able to experience infrasonic, below 20 Hz-measureable to 13Hz with 15 Hz tune, frequencies is like entering a whole new realm of bass. No kidding.

I wonder if you're localizing the bass up front now because you have the new Para mains and you have them crossed over at 40 Hz. But I'm with others, your principle system outclasses your sub by a mile. Very nice, as I said, but could be improved with a little more subwoofer quality. I'll ditto all the other advice, as well. Good recommendations by these folks. If you could move the mains outward and forward a tad and get the sub out of that little cubbyhole....

Thankyou, im going to give it a try and the subs going to have to wait but its second on my list, 1st being Studio adp-590 sb speakers. I've pulled the speakers apart a few inches and up towars the listening positions about 3 inchs and it sounds better, thankyou again to you and everyone here for the excellent advice. Ok gottta get back to dialing in my new Pioneer Elete 94, so far it sounds incredible just out of the box and adjusting all speakers large except for srb set at small and sub set at 50. Just with running the tuner its sounds so crisp. Im going to try the auto setup now for ditance ect and test out some movies. So far im very impressed except its a very large reciever but its eye candy for sure.

Also take your sub and place in listening position. Walk around room until bass sounds the best. Place sub in that location.

I haven't tried that yet with this receiver but on other receivers it seemed to be boomy or guess the best way to describe it is in a movie when a car is driving down the street and you get a rumble type sound. It seams when I have it set at 40 or 50 and the speakers at the large setting my sub only kicks in on the big explosions and such which sounds better to me .When I get a longer cable for my sub i'll try moving it around more but for now I only have a 6 ft cable so im limited.

It seams when I have it set at 40 or 50 and the speakers at the large setting my sub only kicks in on the big explosions and such which sounds better to me .When I get a longer cable for my sub i'll try moving it around more but for now I only have a 6 ft cable so im limited.

It sounds like you have your subwoofer level is set too high for your tastes. Some people actually desire the "Jurassic Park" rumble. Adjust you subwoofer level down.

Another way is to try different crossover settings. If your speakers can handle lower frequencies they could be set large and you could have the sub pick-up only below 60 Hz.

Wright now I have it set at 50hz and all speakers set at large except for rear surround backs and sub volume at about 1/4

Was looking at some new sub cables at Blue jeans so I can move my sub around and I notice they have 3 or 4 different types. I'll probably get 25 to 30feet. Is there anyone you guys recommend for that length ?
