I'm gonna ask this again... How come no one has the new Sony's on their radar? I still think they're the coolest looking players out there.
I think the Sony 350/550 look very cool too. I think they will be great players. The only concern is when they will be available. If the Sony and Panasonic will be available at the same time, I think it will be a toss up. I consider them equivalent.

But if you already have a receiver that can decode TrueHD/DTS-MA via Bitstream, you can get the Panasonic DMP-BD30 right now. Is it better than the Sony 350? I don't think so. But it's available now.

Okay, but you and me are the only ones. I guess the reason I don't get the Panny now is because I want a profile 2.0 player... why? Just because Iguess. I don't wanna spend $400 for an older player that I can get in a couple of months or so when I'm not really itching for blu-ray just yet anyway. All my stuff is still backordered so I have yet to even see my new TV (hopefully Friday, Elite 94 Monday or Tuesday) I did get my Oppo player the other day, so I'll be more than thrilled just having all that new stuff.

Sorry bro but unfortunately the s300 does not do HD sound:( Sorry!!!!
Not true... It doesn't do lossless audio compressed codecs. It does Dolby Digital Plus and DTS-HD HR. Moreover, it does do PCM. So you can get lossless audio and send it out of its multichannel audio ports. However, that's only true for PCM discs. The only new discs coming out with PCM are Lionsgate, Disney and certain indy titles. (Opus Arte's "Die Zauberflöte" comes to mind.)

Note to people looking at the Sony BDP-S350, Samsung BD-P1500, Panasonic DMP-BD50: Those will be profile 1.1 out of the box and profile 2.0 firmware updated later.

I have a LG BH200. (MSRP is $849, Street price at Fry's/Best Buy/etc. is $599, E-bay is around $400!) Its currently profile 1.1 and plays every Blu-Ray title I've thrown at it. It doesn't currently internally decode DTS-HD MA or do profile 2.0 (not a big deal just yet). I am hoping that LG will bump it to profile 2.0, as its hardware is capable.

Hey "bro" you might want to get your facts straight. None of sony's current blu-ray players can decode or bitstream DTS-Master Audio. This will be changed in there 3rd generation players. A new ES player is in the works to replace your S2000es.

I think most people think about HD audio has Dolby True HD and DTS Master Audio. Just looked at Sony's site, the 5200 does not appear to decode nor bitstream DTS-MA. I think only the Panny bd30 bitstreams both at this point along with the $1k+ Dennon (I think).

The new Panny and Sony's expected mid summer (July - the last I read a couple of days ago) will both decode and bitstream both Dolby TrueHD and DTS-MA and all 3 players will be between $350 and $450 (highest for the Sony 550 which has the storage space)

Quite a few players bitstream high resolution audio over HDMI 1.3.

profile 1.1 players that bitstream
LG BH200 (internally decodes Dolby TrueHD as an option)
Panny DMP-BD30
Philips BD-P7200 -- cheapest of these
Denon DVD2500BT (internally decodes Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA as an option)
Marantz BD8002 (internally decodes Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA as an option)

profile 1.0 players that bitstream
Samsung BD-P1400 (internally decodes Dolby TrueHD as an option)
I think one Pioneer and one Sony also do this. However, I'm not 100% sure, so I'm not mentioning them.

Don't forget about the Denon DVD-3800BDCI, which can Bitstream TrueHD/DTS-MA and Internally Decode/Output TrueHD/DTS-MA via 7.1 Analog Output and HDMI-1.3.

I have one sitting at home right now.

I've looked at all the current BD players on the market, and as of TODAY, only the DVD-3800BDCI can Internally Decode TrueHD/DTS-MA.

NONE of the SONY (including $2K ES model), PIONEER, SAMSUNG, PANASONIC, LG can Internally Decode DTS-MA.

The new Panasonic BD50 & Sony 550 are the only other BD players that can internally decode DTS-MA, but they are not out yet.

Luckily, my new Elite Receiver can decode the bitstream pretty well. I got the TV yesterday, the Pioneer should be here today, and the Def Techs late next week. I'm STOKED!!!!

Well, congrats!

Looks like you are going to have a great week ahead.

If going from Profile 1.1 to 2.0 only requires a simple firmware, would you buy the Panasonic BD30?

I don't know where you checked or who told you that but it appears they told you wrong. I double chedked Sony's site and they do NOT list DTS-MA as one of the formats. I called a local Sony dealer here, who has given me good info on the upcoming players, just to double check and he said it does not as well.

If you have info otherwise, I'd like to know where you're getting it because most people, even ones who deal with high end Sony don't know what you do, so it would be good info to have if accurate.

Yeah, I've looked at just about all the blu-ray players out there. As far as Sony is concerned, only the PS3 is capable of Internally Decoding DTS-MA & TrueHD for now. No bitstream, but that's okay. As long as you get it one way or another.:D

The upcoming Sony 350 & 550 are supposed to bitstream DTS-MA/TrueHD and the 550 is supposed to also internally decode them.

You can never be too sure until you see it in black & white -- like the actual owner's manual or something.:D
