I have never heard hsu subs but they get a great rep on this forum regularly.

Actually they are very highly regarded on many other a/v sites. I just did a little research myself and I would buy one for sure. Make sure you buy from a reputable store. Best of luck to you....

Thx Jamie. I have been hearing the same as well, this site seems to like hsu and svs. I am trying to get a deal off of ebay, so its a M&k or a hsu, unsure what to do, lol. Thats why i was wondering if anyone heard that paticular model of hsu. Thx for the response though. Cheers!

Of course price could be important...but if it doesn't matter get the Hsu. Keep in mind that this subwoofer requires a separate amplifier (not included).

What do you mean by a seperate amp? My hk won't be able to run it?

Your H/K 'sub/lfe out' jack provides only a preamped signal. You require a separate amplifier to drive that model of Hsu subwoofer. When I went in to ebay to look at the item, I noted that there was also an STF-2 or perhaps a VTF-2...don't remember which. That model does not require an amp. It has one built in.

That said, that TN1220 is one heckuva fine sub. If it were me, I'd buy it and a cheap amp to drive it.

These are excellent subs, but yes they are also passive and require an amp. You feed the line level signal from the sub pre-out to the amp and that amp powers the sub. You don't need a high end amp, but few receivers will be able to power one of these adequately IMO.

I would suggest getting a HSU that is self powered. With correct crossover points on your receiver, you can relieve the receiver of the wattage demands of LFE and leave more for the rest of the spectrum. I do highly recommend Hsu subs (I have one). They make a lot of bottom for a reasonable amount of money.
