HI- I know this is asked all the time, but would like a little advice on my personal set up for what I need ? I would like a new receiver but really cant spend over 1k on one and would go used if that helps.
I just bought some B and W 805 s speakers, and I want a nice receiver to push these, but also want to hook up a blu ray player most likely ps3 to my receiver to get best possible audio also. The receiver will mainly be used for HT use only. My understanding is i will need at least 2 hdmi in and 1.3 and true hd, to get best audio on blue ray? is this correct and any reccomendations? thanks so much.

Here you go:

http://dakmart.com/search.php?limit=10&offset=10&keyword=Denon AVR-4306&page=1

And you can even get the 5-yr warranty from DENON for $99!

Just let your PS3 does all the decoding (LPCM, TrueHD, DTS-MA) and send via HDMI to your Denon 4306.

Or get the Denon AVR-3806 for less:
http://dakmart.com/search.php?keyword=Denon+AVR-3806
And get the 3-yr warranty for $60.

B & W 805 speakers are typically not used as front speakers unless the space is very limited. The have an average effiiciency 88dB and their recommended power range is 50-120RMS. You do not need as large of receiver as people are recommending to drive the 805S. You might want to consider a Marantz 4002 ,Yamaha 663 or Onkyo 605.

Many have listed some great options for you.

For $1000 -$1100 these are the options i see for you. There are respectable dealers you can these online for at that price.

Denon AVR-2808
Onkyo TX-SR875
Yamaha RXV1800
Sony STR-DA4300ES
Pioneer Elite VSX-92TXH

If HDMI is a connectivity issue than i would eliminate the Denon because it has only 2 inputs. The Yamaha and Onkyo have the most with 4 inputs so those would be your choices.

As far as video processor, i dont think its even an issue anymore. Most people will be sending 1080i/p through to there displays from high performing sources (Oppo, HDDVD,Blu-ray) so what are you left needing to upconvert? VCR? :D Yes the Onkyo has the Reon chip, but it was shown in a professional review to not perfrom as well as a Reon based DVD player. In fact, it had distorted the image that required the TV to be adjusted! Also from i have read the Onkyo has some audio delay (not sync) issues with HDMI sources and also runs very hot.

So my final choice would be the Yamaha 1800, based on HDMI connectivity.

If 3 HDMI inputs are enough, then the choice is harder.

Although I am not a huge fan of Sony, i actually have owned or own 2 of there receivers and they are very easy to use and have great sound. There have been many positive reviews on the new Sony ES line.

From my experiece with owning 3 different Denon receivers, is that there sound is catered to music more than home theater, and Sony is catered to hometheater more than music. Again this is all just audio jargon. The Sony has an excellent on screen menu system like the Denon.

I dont think the others in the group can match Denon or Sony GUI menu sytem.

But any of the above are prime candidates. Personally I like Denon, and I'm waiting for an update on the AVR-2808 with more HDMI inputs, but if had to chose right now, surprisingly i would pick the Sony

The Yamaha 663 and upcoming Pioneer 1018 should fit the bill. If you don't care about future proofing or connectivity, something like NAD, Arcam, or Cambridge Audio will do nicely.

Hey thanks for the great advice so far on receiver choices. I am also suprised to hear the mose people buy the the 805s speakers for rears only at 2500+ must be nice, but I am in a small room and they seem to sound pretty nice at this point. hey on a side note is ther anyway to access the on screen menu on an denon avr 3300 without the remote? or any remote I can get that will do it for me?

The B&W 805s look pretty nice. I notice the minimum impedance is 3.7 ohms. Personally, I would make sure the amp is good enough for 4 ohms just to be safe. I mean $2,500 isn't exactly a small sum in my book either.:D

B & W speakers are awesome!

I didn't mean anything derogatory when I said 805s speakers are not normally used for the fronts. I was just looking how they were catagorized on the B & W website. I think they are excellent speakers. And $2,500 is a good chunk of change. My wife is just getting over the $2,500 I just spent to upgrade my fronts and centers (Def Tech 7002s and CLR3000); LOL I had to buy new carpet for the den, at you guessed it another $2,500.

On a side note I am not sure about Denon or specifc AVRs with on screen display, but many that connected via HDMI 180i or 1080p will not display the on-screen through that connection. They will only display at 480p; go figure. If that is important to you, you can download most AVR manuals from PDF files through the Internet before you buy.

I understand you didnt mean anything derogatory not taken that way at all? Like you said I think they are great and wish i had enough $$$ to run them as rears also just for the heck of it but cant manage it. Time for a receiver thanks for help
