How does one go about deciding how big and how many subs to put in a room. I am building a listening/theater room that is 15x22 with 10' ceilings. This is approximately 3300 cubic feet. I am running VR4 jr mains with ts 150 surrounds and a LCr 15 center. The amp is a Cary cinema 5.

Any help or point me in the right direction would be appreciated. I am trying to stay around the $1k per sub especially if I have to get two.

Check out www.epiksubwoofers.com, http://www.edesignaudio.com/, www.av123.com (MFW-15 is a beast, two for $1000, though they are back ordered).

I assume you can spend a max of $2000? From Epik, go with Conquest or Castle, they will blow you away.

From eD, Go with an A7-450 or an A7-700.

Any of those will blow you away, you should actually need to turn them down.

You have a ton of options in your price range.

Good luck!

Welcome rtab, that’s a sweet HT (Von Schweikert/Cary) setup.:D You’ll definitely want a sub(s) that will complement it. The size/quantity of subs relates to your room’s attributes and your expectations. Your room is not overly large and it seems you have designed the room to account for room mode issues.:) Multiple subs are generally used to aid in flattening the low end response. Although an EQ device for the bottom-end, like a Velodyne SMS-1, paired with a single quality sub should do the job as well. http://forums.audioholics.com/forums/showpost.php?p=401065&postcount=43 The previously mentioned subs as well as the SVS PB13-ULTRA are among the top contenders in your budget range.

BTW, my HT space is 3600+ cu. ft. and since I added my dual SVS PLUSes last fall I’ve been in HT nirvana. Can’t wait to see pics when it’s completed!

AV123 sells the most bang for the buck MFW-15 for 1k per pair! The Hsu Research VTF-3 HO Turbo is/are 1k each.

Call SVS and Hsu Research for recommendations. Haggle is your buying two :)
