I just got a 65 inch Sharp 94 U. Beautiful but settings and calibration is difficult and despite numerous attempts, I cannot get the picture right. However, I have another 3 weeks before I have to keep it. The alternative is the Pioneer Elite Pro 60 inch. Opinions anyone?

It is my dream system, maybe in a couple of years unless they quit making plasma which I hear rumored.

I currently have a 37"( largest size that would fit in my den Amoire) LCD Vizio and it has outstand PQ via BluRay of HD satellite via HDMI.

I assume you are having problems calibrating the Sharp.

LCD has come a long long way, the Sony KDL-52XBR5 1080p might be an even better choice for you if you are having calibration problems with the Sharp but it is only 52". The have a 70" Sony but it is very expensive, KDL-70XBR3.

I would go with the Pioneer Plasma PRO-150FD!

imo get the plasma, the calibration features, that are avialable without entering into the service menu, are tremendous. The detail is amazing on either the 768p or the 1080p. The 9th gen kuros come out at the june, supposedly, so good deals should be had on the 8gens.

Plasma seems to always be the choice for larger flat screens

;) Does anyone know the settings recommended for the above model? I am leaning quickly to the Pioneer, but if there is a chance the lack of 'pop' in the picture is because of calibration, then I want to give it my best shot! Smiles and appreciate your comments!

get the plasma, you'll love it. Run a burn disc, set it up and bliss:D:D

pioneer

i would get the pioneer because, at least for me, plasma looks more natural. Also plasma is going to give you the best black levels. I have an pioneer elite and it is the best looking tv i have ever seen.

I'd wait for the new Pioneer PRO-151FD coming out in a few months. It'll be cheaper than the 8G and have better black levels.

I'll second (third?) the recommendation for the Pioneer, I love mine. As far as settings, I found some good recommendations at the AVS forum that I'm using on my Pioneer, I don't know if they have anything for your Sharp.

NapaDRB;405058As far as settings said:
D Nice over there is pretty much the man on giving good free advice to pioneer owners. His reference settings are a nice tweak if you cant get your hands on a setup dvd or isf tech.

You should talk with the people who sold you the TV and see what advice they give about settings and so forth. You might also want to pay for a certified professional to go into the service menu and set things properly.

I do, however, have one question: You say the picture is "beautiful", but that you "cannot get the picture right". What is wrong with the picture?

I personally would not go with the Pioneer, and would probably keep the larger Sharp (unless you have the appropriate room for a front projector). You might want to read:

http://www.crutchfieldadvisor.com/S-nTsrpTrxqe6/learningcenter/home/tv_flatpanel.html

No matter what anyone tells you, there is no perfect TV, and there are pros and cons to each kind of TV, and you must decide which virtues and which vices are important to you. I would never buy a plasma; some others would not buy anything else. It will be your TV, and you will be the one to live with your choice.

With the kind of money you must be spending on a TV, paying a properly certified technician to adjust your set may very well be money well spent, regardless of what TV you decide to own. See:
