Hi Guys,

I'm looking at the Onkyo txsr805 as a reciever to replace my 8 year old Onkyo reciever. Just want to know what you guys think about his reciever. I think this reciever is pretty comparable to the denon avr3808 but is much more cheaper in price, just want to know what all you guys think.

Thanks

The Onkyo has more power and is cheaper, but it's much larger, produces much more heat and has a few little issues like popping when handling HDMI audio at times.

I love mine. Does run warm, but cooler than my Direct TV DVR! No issues with popping with the new units that have updated firmware & DSP. Older units can update the DSP, that address the popping issue. I'm waiting for the new firmware to become available, which should be soon!

This is good to know.

thanks guys I think I am leaning towards the onkyo txsr805. I have one more question I went to www.crutchfield.com and they have this receiver on sale for 799 bux. I have never bought anything online I just want to know if this company is reputable.

Crutchfield is highly reputable and has been in business a very long time. Their return policy is pretty much 'no questions asked' and the salespeople are pretty knowledgeable and helpful in my experience. They do tend to charge MSRP for the products they stock but I guess that is the price you pay for stellar customer service.

I bought a Toshiba 52LX177 LCD in November and had a few reservations about it. They accepted a return with no hassle and even paid the return shipping. I will be buying the new Toshiba from them in the next month or so.

Note that if you do buy the Onkyo from Crutchfield you should watch the price on their website for 30 days. If they drop the price within 30 days they will refund the difference to you but you have to email or call them. They won't watch it for you and automatically send you a refund.

I was going to PM you, but as this is my first post here I couldn't! Check the "deals deals deals" forum for a much better price on the 805 than what you're seeing on Crutchfield.

If you do decide to get the TX-SR805 I strongly suggest putting fans on it and giving it plenty of room to breath. This will give it a longer life, and more years of enjoyment from the TX-SR805. (I should be writing manuals for receivers:D)

I feel that Onkyo might be too concerned with A LOT POWER, where as Denon, Yamaha, Pioneer, and HK are concerned with just getting ADEQUATE power. I guess it's kind of like Horse Power vs. Reliability in the automobile.:D

If proper measures are taken it shouldn't be a problem.;)
