Do we read minds here? You have provided no information except a nebulous want. What research have you already done? If the answer is none please do some research, post you conclusions, and by all means seek comment at that time.

No, you can just get 3 stereo preamps + a 5 Ch amp + a blu-ray player with internal TrueHD/DTS-MA decoders & 5.1 analog outputs and you are set.:D

Sure, but will the crosstalk numbers be acceptable?!

A processor is usually paired with a preamp in the same box. Hence the term, prepro is short for preamp/processor. A pre/pro is paired with an amplifier.
Most here use an all in one solution, called a receiver, which is a preamp, processor, and amplifier, all in one box.
To answer your question, a seperate power amplifier is needed with a pre amp/processor. What units do you currently have or are thinking of buying?

Come on now, the question is pretty obvious. Helping the newbies is far more interesting than talking amongst ourselves so let's try to be patient.

If I had a dollar for every time I've answered certain questions...but wait, I like to answer questions. It's far more interesting than what I am currently working on. :)

It will be a slick right handy set up.

Now I know that both of you guys would love to have SIX ROTEL RC-1070 analog stereo preamps with crosstalks of < -140dB and THD of < 0.007% for only $3,000. That's SIX preamps for SIX channels in a 5.1 system.

You read that correctly. Crosstalk would be NONEXISTANT because EACH CHANNEL gets its own dedicated preamp!:D

This would be for someone who is insane, which I'm not quite there yet.:eek:

Well, the OP did ask if processors are necessary in the preamp/amp, right?:D

So, no, they are technically not necessary.

Actually, I think I might just get a Denon AVR-5808CI when they do release one. The AVR-5308CI just isn't cutting it.:D
