Quck one: best sbuwoofer under $100?

I know that isn't a huge budget. However, I live in a small studio apartment and I see no need for something too expensive now seeing I won't crank up volumes very high because of my neighbors.

If it helps in the match-up, here is what I currently have:

Receiver: Onkyo 506S
Speakers: Mordaunt-Short Premiere 5 speaker set (302 x 4 + 304)

Another noob question. What sort of wire would I need to connect the subwoofer? Bluejeans has a special section on subwoofer wires.

For reference, I am buying my cables and speaker wire from monoprice and would prefer to buy the subwoofer cable from them to - can you point me in the right direction?

Good cables, not too expensive.

Some subs have L and R inputs which do work with a single line, but people often like a split cable for these subs like this:

Use a free Composite video out cable that you likely have laying around for your sub cable. If your budget is only $100 for a sub, there are better things than buying a special subwoofer cable. The composite cable is the same thing as a subwoofer cable.

So long as it's a well-shielded cable, it should work fine. If not, spring for $5 Monoprice cable.

Honestly, there aren't any good subs in the "sub" $100 price point. A sub isn't just about how much output it has. It's also about tightness, quickness, extension, and efficiency. May I suggest saving a little and getting something a little better? I'm not suggesting a huge sub for you, especially if it's a small space you are trying to fill, but if you are willing to up that budget just a little bit, I think you'll be much happier in the long run.

In order to get even a decent subwoofer you would have to look in the used market. Look for some older Definitive Technology subwoofers on Ebay. The Pro Sub 80 and 100 often go for around that price, and are fairly good subwoofers for their size/price.

Some of these are out of your budget, but maybe it will give you the incentive to save a bit more to get a bit better subwoofer for your money.

I absolutely agree. Sub $100 will get you sub sub (unless it's an extraordinary circumstance) .

The single lowest price sub, verified to be a great value by everyone that I have ever known that has tried it, is the 10" Dayton Audio subwoofer at www.partsexpress.com. It's a little over $100. This is the best solution I can suggest for your circumstance. The 8" version has very little feedback from users in regards to ability/quality/value.
