HDMI Cable Questions

Just had a few questions about HDMI cables.

First, I just replaced a glass TOSlink optical cable with an HDMI cable I had. I thought I heard a slight improvement in sound (not as harsh) but that could be the placebo effect. Is there a reason why the sound would improve with an HDMI cable as opposed to a glass TOSlink?

More importantly, I have a Monster $80 HDMI cable and a Walmart $25 dollar Magnavox (?) HDMI cable. For the record the Monster connects the DVD player to the Denon receiver and the Magnavox connects the receiver to the TV. Would I benefit by replacing one or both of those with Blue Jeans HDMI cables?

Finally if I would benefit what are Blue Jeans best "bang for the buck" HDMI cables? I'm willing to spend some extra to get better A/V performance but I'm not a hundreds of $$$ cable guy (fortunately, Blue Jeans isn't a hundreds of $$$ company).

I might have a question or two later on how to set up the HDMI output from my Denon receiver to my Panasonic LCD TV but that's another area of the forum.

Thank you.

The deal with any of the digital signals is that either the signal gets there or it doesn't. So you wouldn't have any improvements in PQ or SQ. I just bought a couple of BJC HDMI cables. $32 a piece for 15 footers. I move stuff around a lot so I kind of want the extra durability. If I didn't want to spend the money I would have purchased their less expensive cables. Check out their articles on cables, bottom left of their home page I think.

The Toshlink cable passes lossy DD or DTS and the HDMI may be sending the lossless audio signals so, perhaps you could be hearing a small difference between them, but, cannot know for sure without a proper comparison.

If your video looks good, you are getting proper signal through.
