Correct, you just need a receiver that has HDMI 1.1 or better, and one that is an HDMI repeater, not a switcher, as the switching ones don't handle audio via HDMI.

Thank you for answering my question! :)

Yeah, so a $350 Harman Kardon 247 should do the trick:

Or a $377 Onkyo 605:

Or call JR.com right now and get the Yamaha RX-V663 for $400 shpiped. Best receiver for the money.

That's what I'd get. Both those receivers you listed have some issue or another. I am unaware of any with the 661 or the newer 663. I'd recommend either of those. I cannot ask for more than the 661 for my needs.

Does anyone know when the update is due (for dts hd-ma)?

talking about updates, I don't wanna steal the subject but does anyone tried the mosquito noise thingy included in ver 2.20? Is there a nice difference?

April 15th.

I have no idea what the mosquito noise thing is and it is on my PS3:D I don't even know which menu to find it in:confused:

The update should be on the 15th, if not then, it would be the 17th. Don't know anything about a mosquito noise thing with ver 2.20.

I'd still like the PS3 to bitstream though.

What are the audio options I should check/mark on a 5.1 surround for best audio? The list is way too long and there are some items I don't know if I should select.
The PS3 can't bitstream, it's a hardware limitation, and if you have your PS3 connected via HDMI, select automatic and it will select all the audio formats your receiver supports for you.

Well it only gives me:
Linear PCM 2 Ch. 44.1 kHz
Linear PCM 2 Ch. 48 kHz

Receiver is an rx-v1800, speaker setup in 5.1

:confused::confused:

That's odd... I have the same receiver and mine didn't do that. I would have to look at it again when I get home.

I don't think you can go to far wrong by selecting mostly everything. Mine only autoselected those two also, but when I selected everything else, it worked fine.

That's really odd:confused: My receiver is steps down from your Yamaha and I get everything listed. Are you sure the settings are right on the PS3 audio out?

Settings
Sound Settings
Audio output

Then I select HDMI
and then Automatic

I have selected everything too... works great... but there are some sample rates I'm not sure of.

Those of you with an rx-v1800... could you PM me with your audio settings? (box by box) for optimal performance?

I'm now thinking about getting a PS3. My question is can I run the video throught component cables into my television, which only has component inputs and at the same time run the audio via HDMI into my Yamaha RXV2700, so I can take full advantage of the high res audio formats? I was able to do this with my Toshiba HDA3. I don't care about upconverting SD-DVD's, only High def playback of Blu-ray discs.

I don't think you can scale from progressive to interlaced.

I use an external drive to store music which then allows you to store in folders, though you still can't sort by track number. On the PS3, you can sort by artist and album.
Nice thinkin' John. That should enable me to have my music in folders and free up some disc space on my hard drive. Putting music on the hard drive took up about 20 Gigs. I'll have to see about giving that a try.

By the way, the Xbox 360 supposedly upscales 720 to 1080.

No, the multi out and the HDMI cannot be used at once.
