Recommend a good audio rack

Hey folks,

I want to get rid of my gigantic entertainment center and get an audio rack.

Here are the criteria:

1. Bottom shelf needs to be 20" deep and be able to support 75lbs.

2. I would prefer glass shelves, but it's not absolutely necessary.

3. I would like something with cable management.

4. I prefer a dark wood color, like Espresso, but black will work too.

I found this rack at Racksandstands.com, and it seems to pretty much fit the bill. I just wish I could get it in Espresso color. It's $319, which is about the most I'm willing to spend.

Anybody got any suggestions for other places to look?

That's pretty nice looking-have you tried searching the manufacturer and/or model number to see if it's cheaper somewhere else (Amazon, OneCall, even Ebay, etc)? Worth a shot, sorry not more helpful.

I think the Sanus brand has other models

That one would indeed be nice, if it weren't so wide. That's more of a TV stand than an audio rack. Thanks though.

Look up Sanus i think they make other audio rack models:

Here is one possible example:

Why hide your audio components in an enclosed rack when you can display them on a gorgeous stand from the A/V furniture experts at Sanus? The tempered-glass shelves are extremely strong and durable, with polished edges, while the sturdy frame is made of solid, grade-A hardwood.

The NF206's patent-pending wire management system maintains a clean, uncluttered look even after your components are hooked up. Simple assembly required. Available in black or cherry finish.

Details:
contains 6 shelves
top shelf: 26"W x 22"D
26"W x 55-1/16"H x 22"D
weight capacity: 60 lbs.
warranty: 1 year

You can also just Google "audio racks" and there are quite lot of places you can check out and see other designs you might like better.

I like Salamander and BDI for component racks and TV stands.

I just bought my first audio racks ever, modular Studio Tech. I think they are great! $200, free shipping. I feel quite "future-proofed" in the case that my equipment ever grows or shrinks, I can add or take away shelving. You can buy extra shelves, and also the options of 7" vs 9" height.
http://www.racksandstands.com/StudioTech-HF-4-B-B-SO0131.html

The bottom rack supports 125 lbs, but the "usable depth" is listed as 17". Oh well, won't work I suppose? (I did have my amp sticking its butt out on the former open style tv rack...).

Anyways, I took one shelf off the "stereo" rack, and put it in the HT rack. I bought an extra set of 7" columns. There are sliding "wire management" segments that I opted not to use in favor of maximum ventilation.

I just want to say I highly recommend going modular. However, if you did want to add or take away a shelf, you have to remove all components, and turn the rack upside down to do so.

I'm using the Sanus Euro series TV stand, http://www.sanus.com/us/en/products/productCategory/line/avFoundations/pcat/euro/, but there's an audio rack available also. It's also modular, you can add shelves, and/or purchase different height pillars. The standard is 8", they have 12" and 5" available in silver or black. The shelves are 19.75" deep and the specs for the base say 125 lbs for the bottom shelf. The only cable management is a hole in the middle/back of the shelf, though. I think the other NF series Sanus posted earlier looks more like what you're looking for, the Euro just has a bit of flexibility if you need it.

I own a Sanus rack and love it. I bought it bstock, and it was easy to assemble and once it was all bolted up it was a solid piece of furniture.
Sanus.......FTW! [for the win]

I was actually looking at the Sanus Java. That's a nice looking piece. I just have to see if I'd be able to cut out the back of the bottom shelf to allow enough room for the amp.

I personally don't like glass shelves. I am always worried about scratching and damage to them, and dust seems to show up a lot more easily on them.

Some thoughts:

http://www.billybags.com/selectionfr.html Not entirely cheap, but a huge selection.

I like Salamander Synergy, but the cost is relatively high. You can check at Andersons, where I got mine for 60% off.

Have you considered a DIY project? I've been thinking about what I want for an AV shelf, and the only thing I could find was a $1200 unit from Sanus. I'm still a novice at woodworking but I decided I could come up with something much cheaper.

What I'm planning on building isn't what you have in mind but you could probably get some glass shelves cut and build a frame for them.

Nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing can beat BDI Axis (discontinued :() in terms of looks and quality. I've seen those stands a few times and wanted one for myself. A little pricey but you know what they say: you get what you pay for. If you can still get your hands on one of the cognac color, they you're in audio furniture nirvana.

Yeah BDI's stuff looks amazing. Too bad it's WAY out of my price range!! The rack that I liked from them was about $800!!!!

But I happened to be at Best Buy today, because I had $100 in Best Buy money to spend, and I stumbled across a stand that was just about perfect. It's by Altra and I guess it's been discontinued, because I can't find a picture of it anywhere. I'll have to take one when I get it set up. It's just about the right color, it's the right size, and it was on sale for $70, so I ended up getting it for free!!!! Can't beat that.

Anyway, thanks for all the suggestions guys.
