Can I get some opinions/feedback from people on this Receiver? It is among one I was researching, the others being Denon 3805 & 3806, as well as the Yamaha RX-V2600 and Onkyo 702 and 801 models.

All immeduate feedback would be GREATLY appreciated, as this credit card is burning a hole in my back pocket, and I'm itching to spend ($1,500 max)

I've had my AVR7300 now for about six months and am very pleased with its performance and ability to deliver.

I'm only running it in 5.1 with Infinity Interlude speakers all around, and it's hooked into a Monster Power center.

People have complained about the 7300's cooling fan for the FLI2300, honestly.. I can't hear it. If I have my living room door open, the ambient noise from outside is much louder than the fan. If you listen to any show at above -50, you wont even hear it.

My only complaint is that HK is a bit behind in the 'up conversion' category. This unit doesn’t support HDMI nor does it support Up conversion of incoming signals. It can convert incoming 480i (S-Video, Composite and even Component) to 480p, but that's it.

Newer receivers are able to scale incoming signals to 1080i and output all incoming signals to HDMI, meaning far less cables.

HDMI/Up conversion aside, the AVR7300 is a great receiver!

Secrets did a review of this unit and it came out looking like a champ.

Hope this all helps! :)

if you dont mind refurbished with a manufacture warranty, then you can get one of ebay from the authorized harmon dealer, for ~1000 usually

The ebay dealer is great. I got aa 7200 from them and the customer service was impressive. quick and curtious. It felt weird because this was my first large on-line purchase but with this experience, I will buy from this dealer again. Your buying factory direct so it comes with the full factory warrenty, pre paid shipping each way to service the unit, and lifetime customer support! absolutely hassle free.

Only the 3806 and 2600 models allow for HDMI connections. This is where A/V is headed, and if you plan on purching a flat screen, you probably should go the HDMI route. If you don't care about these connections, then I'd say go for the power. The HK7300 (even the 7200) really can't be beat for the money. They'll power just about anything you can think of, and offer a lot of other capabilities as well. They've been harder and harder to find lately - especially on Harman's ebay site.

HMMMM. I have owned the HKAVR7300 since first released. It is a great system with almost unlimited capabilities. I paid almost $4000.00 to get it fresh off the line. There is one problem however that has caused me to question my purchase from day one. The volume randomly decides to increase to full. The only way to stop it is to turn the receiver off. If more than 30 feet away this causes a problem. Now I consider myself to be fairly fit but to stop my house from shaking down I need to cover that 30 feet in just a few seconds. Luckily my speakers can handle full volume without detrimental effects...My room ornaments that tend to shake off their bases are not so fortunate.
I contacted HK about this problem a couple of years ago and I was advised to turn the power off at the main source occasionally and let the static drain..................................and so I did. This seemed to work and music listening was again worry free, for a while. One day after draining my poor $4000 system I fired it up and sure enough the volume shot up to full. I recently contacted Eugene Popa, senior technician at HK Canada. Eugene advised me there is a "software upgrade" for my receiver. HMMM again. He suggested I download it from the net and try to fix my problem myself. Alrighty folks. Can anyone find me this magical software upgrade???
So should you purchase HK anything? I think not. I'm going back to another major brand. Makes me kinda sad though. I liked everything else about this receiver. Hope this helps.

In Canada HK receivers cost a fortune but in the US their prices are competitive with Denon and Yamaha. My 3805has been totally reliable for almost 4 years, and it would probably stay this way for many more years. The only thing bad about it is the remote. I am planning on replacing it with the 3808 or 4308 soon just to get the HDMI 1.3 and other latest features. You can get a 3808 for a little over $1K right now so why bother with the 3805/6?

My H/K did the same thing and resetting the unit did the trick. Before you do so you might write down all your settings as they will be reset to factory default. I didn't see an update for this unit either. You can register your H/K and they'll let you know when an update becomes available. Your reset procedure should be toward the very end of your manual. Unplugging it is one thing but resetting the micro processor is the next step that does the magic.

AVR 7300's go for around $600 refurbed from the eBay store HarmanAudio. The thing is that they only have them available a couple of times a year.

Hallo Karen,
do you have this magic update? Can you send me this update or where I can find this?
