I was set on picking up the H/K since i have always wanted one but recently have been reading about Marantz.
I was set on the H/K 247 but now found this for actually a little cheaper.
I was going to buy the H/K as a refurb which was at $378 I saw the Marantz refurb for $300 and new for $350.
If seems like from what i read so far Marantz is considered a better receiver but the lower price is what i dont uderstand.
i am sure i am missing something here if anyone can help i would appreciate it

thanks

Perhaps being from the previous Marantz line of receivers accounts for the discount. The 4001 was a 500-550 receiver when introduced two years back.

Yes paying more now is better then having to buy another in a year, I was first going to get the h/k147 since i have small boston acoustic cubes for speakers 60watts each with a powered sub i figured it would power them fine.

Then i heard that it does not have the HDMI audio plus i figure what if i find a nice pair of tower speakers on sale sometime in the future i dont want to have to buy a new receiver to pwer them.
So then i looked at the H/K 247 which i think i am going to stick with.

Keep in mind that the scaler on the H/K is very stupid, and is not manageable. It cannot scale to any other resolution but 720p and it can't be disabled (meaning it will wreck a good scaler on the other end unless it's scaling over 720p at which point it will pass the video through rather than add it's scaling).

Marantz has a better reputation, is less costly, and doesn't have a stupid scaler that is almost completely pointless.

There are varying scalers, not all 720p scalers are created equally. The fact you can't shut the lesser quality scaler in the H/K is a big turn off for me, especially if you wanted a nice upscaling player or the TV to do the scaling for you. Much like megapixels on cameras, more megapixels does not necessitate a better picture.;)

Thanks for the info

Could you recommned a Marantz model that would be equal or greater than the HK 247, I am only going to be using 5.1 if that will make any differnence.

Thanks again

I think the SR-4001 is very comparable, minus the stupid scaler.
