STF-2 should still have some output below 25Hz, it is just that is where it will start to drop off. That is what my VTF-2 did too, but it was a very large room too. I'd opt for a single STF-2 also, at least to start with. I would expect 25Hz out of a STF-1, but it will already be rolling off at that point vs the STF-2.

Thanks John I will take a closer look at the STF-2 or an Outlaw LFM-1 Compact. Sounds like both would perform very well in my new room.

Well, in spite of all my research I decided NOT to order a SW-12. I was convinced it would have been very good for music applications but noticed extension was somewhat limited. I mean -3db at 28 Hz and then -6db @24Hz concerned me a bit. My guess would be that say at 20 Hz the roll-off would be somewhere at or near -9-10db if not more. That is, even if the SW-12 could dig that low which I doubt. With that said, I decided to oder a Mirage Omni S10 instead because it will give me plenty of extension and is very punchy, tight, and articulate. I used to own the S12 and absolutely loved it. Have regretted getting rid of it ever since. I am aware the S10 will not be as good BUT my new room is also much smaller and is fully enclosed. This will imho balance things out. Heck, I may even get another down the road who knows. For now, the S10 I am sure will be sufficient. Thus, the S10 will not have much trouble reaching into the low 20's and that is plenty low enough for me. I also plan to get an eD eQ.2 to deal with any room peaks as well as employ the subsonic filter to make things sound even better.

Just got my Mirage Omni S10 this morning and all I can say so far is WOW!!!!! I was not expecting this to sound so good given that I used to own a S12. However, the S10 sounds tighter and more articulate and imho is more tuneful. Just can't wait till I get into my new home. The S10 will be perfect for my small dedicated ht room. At this point, it is doubtful I will need another S10 but may still get one to balance things off. Thought I would give everyone an update as I am so happy with my purchase. Not going to push it too hard until it breaks-in properly. I also ordered an eD eQ.2 via a money order and should have it in about 6-weeks or so. The subsonic (high-pass) filter will enable me to tighten the S10 up some more and thus hopefully give me some extra head-room. I also will have (2) separate bands of equaliztion to help tame any in-room peaks and flatten out the frequency response.

Thought I would update this thread. My Yamaha V-RX663 arrived on Thursday and I finally had a chance to play with the Infinity Beta speakers and the SW-12 Sub.

Overall, I am very impressed and have no immediate need for the RABOS kit. The Sub blends extremely well with the rest of the speakers and since the receiver handles the crossover (using YPAO mic) I have left the crossover at max.

This is great news yates. Congrats on your purchase. So far I am quite impressed with my new set-up. Hope to be in my new place soon. Bet the SW-12 packs a punch too........right? I know the Betas sound good and from what I remember are a bit laid-back on the top-end. The midrange is so natural sounding it is almost scary. Your choice in receivers has been getting a lot of good praise as well. Keep us posted.

btw man please dont buy the infinity off of vans because i just saw one go for 200 shipped on ebay. i almost bought it. there are always at least 5 of them on ebay. they are refurbished from infinity, and im pretty sure they still have the warranty too. good deals

I did not buy one. I ordered a Mirage Omni S10 instead and as such am quite happy. But, thanks for the heads up.

I like the 663. My primary reason for upgrading was the HDMI inputs. I wanted a simple and reliable setup that would pass the latest video and sound. The Yamaha 663 seemed like one of the least expensive options considering the build quality/feature set.

To think, it all started when I upgraded to an HDTV (Sharp LC52SE94U). I told my wife that it would be a shame to have this kind of display without a Blu-ray player. So I researched those options and ended up buying the Sony PS3 since this was the best and least expensive solution. Well...the best sound and video could only be extracted using HDMI. However, my Sony receiver didn't support HDMI so I stumbled across the Yamaha at a reasonable price point. Of course, I couldn't let my system be hampered by poor speakers so I bit the bullet and bought the Infinity Beta series and SW-12 sub from Vann's at a great price.

It was an expensive journey, but I finally have a system that both sounds and looks good. It only requires (3) wires with the exception of speaker wires. One HDMI from the cable box into the 663, one HDMI cable from the PS3 into the 663, and one HDMI from the 663 into the TV.

All that being said, it really adds up: stand (BDI Meriden), line conditioner (Panamax 5300EX), Harmony remote (550), etc....

Not the best pics, but it does give you a basic overview of my layout:

The only real frustration was that I specifically ordered this stand due to it's extra large center area and my center speaker was going to go into the cabinet with the L/R speakers directly on either side.

Unfortunately, the specs in the catalog were wrong so the center speaker doesn't fit (25" versus 25 5/8" long). I would have returned the cabinet, but it is built very well. I would have returned the center speaker, but I really wanted a well built 3-way center speaker and this certainly fits the bill (35lbs). I might have been tempted to exchange this center and go with 3 matching towers, but Vanns ran out of the black Beta 40's and shipping the speaker back seemed like too much of a hassle.

Anyway, everything sounds great and if necessary I will just rest the center on a 12" stand. It is actually positioned in the center of the listening area and yet close to the screen so it works out pretty well.

Wher is you couch located? Directly in front of the TV or the fireplace?

Why don't you put the center channel under the TV? Is the TV too heavy for it? The center will probably sound better when elevated off the floor.

I agree

yatesd, you need to put that center channel under the TV. For better SQ you might take steps with your fronts as well. They are too close to the walls for one and what's on your other walls? Also what's to the left of your system? How far is the corner from your left speaker?
