Hello all!

Was this a good purchase ($500 with shipping)? I know it is being phased out by Onkyo but the reviews on this player were spectacular.

I was looking for a good CD player... and was looking at the Cambridge Audio Azur 650... about $500 open box. I was also looking at the Pioneer Elite DV58AV the DVD/SACD player. But will be using this mostly for my CD collection and SACD collection. I will use it as a DVD but mostly for CD and SACD.

The other CD players I was looking at was the Rotel single disc $650 and the Onkyo singe disc Audiophile CD player (CD only) for $479 free shipping. I figured for $21 more I get DVD/DVD A/SACD.

Let me know.

I have seen that player up close, it's a tank (it's very heavy and way overbuilt). I have not heard it being used, but the specifications, reviews, and it's looks all lead to a win. It has decent scaling abilities (great in it's day) but the HD-A35 should trump it in scaling prowess. If you mainly wanted it for music (as you said) then I think you hit the jackpot. It should handle SACD, CDs and DVD-Audio fantastically. A reminder, the Onkyo DV-SP1000 does not support High resolution MLP Lossless and DSD bitstreams over HDMI. It will support High resolution MLP Lossless and DSD bitstreams over Firewire and can also be processed internally and output over the 5.1 analog outputs.

Thank you for the information... but the guy that I had a deal in place with said while packing it up ... he dropped it... and he checked it before he packaged it and it would not turn on.

So the deal fell through... luckily... he could have just sent it to me as is... and not told me... It is nice to have people that are honest.

Seth... so you are the spec dude... so if I have any question about product specs, you know how to read them all?? Cool!

Eh, not all the specs. To bad about the Onkyo, that's sad he dropped it. That thing was $2000 new.:( You could still get one for under $650 shipped I think, but then why not just get an Oppo.;)
