I have a need to run a few HDMI Cables. Well good for me I know. I have a need to go 30' and about 50'. I found a few sites that carry long cables saying they produce 1080p+ (Eg: Sonic ) How well do these work?

I assume my bet option may be the Gefen Cat5e extender but it cost almost $500.00

I will be playing Blu-Ray movies over the cable.

Thanks,

Introducing BJC Series-1 HDMI Cables:
After almost two years of product development, Blue Jeans Cable is proud to introduce the BJC Series-1 Bonded-Pair HDMI cable. This HDMI cable is the first and only HDMI cable manufactured principally in the United States; it is the first and only HDMI cable to incorporate Belden's patented bonded-pair technology; and its exceptional performance at high frequencies and long distances is unrivalled by any other HDMI cable available on the market today. In our own in-use testing, we have run 1080p video in this cable 125 feet without loss, with no booster or EQ unit required. The BJC Series-1 HDMI cable stock is manufactured by Belden, in Richmond, Indiana, exclusively for Blue Jeans Cable.

I have a 10 foot version of the cable and am very very pleased...very high quality and probably better priced than what you are looking at in your post but the cable is stiff and you cannot bend this cable around in all sorts of directions.

www.monoprice.com - The 50 foot cable is perfect, and the price is great.

Do some searching, you will hear more than a few people singing the praises of Monoprice. I just brought in a 50' HDMI cable from them and hooked it up to my PS3 to a Sharp 52" LCD - the LCD is only 6" from the PS3, but I used the 50' cable for grins and giggles...

Perfect 1080p/24 without hitch.

This is just the way they work, and spending more to get the same thing doesn't make much sense, yet if I was going to do this, I would go to Blue Jeans in a second over other companies.

Just for fun I'm going to use an HDMI extender with a 35' HDMI cable with the 50' cable to see if it works.

That is great experimentation and to come.

That is similar to this video test
http://www.provide.net/~djcarlst/abx_vid.htm
with a 120V power extension cord. :D

I suppose spending more on these cables makes sense to the selling companies;):D

What a bunch of crap. The tests run have no bearing on the real issue of long HDMI runs which is error accumulation and how the quality of the devices they are connected to affect performance.

"Another factor in these distances is the headroom provided by both the source and the display. Obviously, if the source signal isn't very good, or the display's data-recovery characteristics aren't very good, or the input or output impedances are meaningfully off-spec, then distances will be more limited than if these things are all performing well above spec. This is one of the maddening things about HDMI: it's not really possible to say with perfect confidence that a long cable will or will not work in a given application because once one is in "non-compliant" territory, it all depends upon the characteristics of the devices in use. It's not uncommon, with long cables, to find that they work with one source or display and not with another."

"If you really think your vendor has a 50-foot HDMI-compliant cable, ask him for a copy of his compliance testing certificate, which will show the distance for which he's passed testing, and under what spec version. If you find a 50-foot compliant cable (with no booster or EQ unit), let BJC know; They have never found a single one, and they are pretty sure there's no such thing."

Ditto. Im using a 35ft Monoprice (and not even the v1.3 IIRC) and BD and HD look great at 1080p/24fps. And Id also go with BJC in a heartbeat over other companies.

Did I say it is the same thing or that just similar since the power cables are not video cable, yet it transmits them well enough to not be differentiated in certain tests, like real video not test patterns.
So, that link is hardly crap.

I think it was on endgadget that I saw an article saying that the monoprice 50' HDMI cable didn't pass the 1080p test.

I'd go with BJC on that one but with monoprice for shorter runs.

It may have failed their test criteria but obviously it passes the signal enough not to corrupt it. :D

Definitely recommend BJC for long runs, you can't go wrong. Monoprice has great cables for shorter runs too (less than 35 ft).
