Hey guys,

Just have a quick question.. I found a good deal on some Monster component cables for my Playstation 2, and was wondering if they would be any better than the Psyclone high performance component cables I already have.

Anyone have experience with both cables? I know Monster makes great cables, but these Psyclone ones retailed at $60 back in the day, and seem pretty good already. But there's always room for improvement I say.. Just curious.

Anyone have a thought?

thanks much

The Monster ones are no better, unless yours are some how faulty no performance gain can be had.

What is that good deal $$$? But, most likely it is not worth it, no matter what. It will not beat what you have now.

Just to let you in on a little secret Monster cables or their products in general are not really liked on this board as well as their business practices...people will not recommend them

Perhaps an explanation is in order. They are frowned upon primarily for their vastly overpriced cables...not their quality. At $9...buy it.

For $9 the Monster cables are a great deal. However, I really doubt you'll be able to tell any difference between those and your current Psyclone cables. I say don't waste your money on a sideways move.

With no performance difference between the cable he has, then the reason to buy is purely cosmetic.

Most likely. But I never stated there would be a pq improvement. And OP didn't state the length of the cables. I guess I assumed there was some issue with his current set of components...and got into the side issue of MC bashing, and the price of a presumably good set for $9 (a good deal for any length..let alone a long run). As an aside, I happen to be running high def over 30' of component cables, and I can assure you, in long lengths, all is not the same. But this is all academic, is it not? The OP never stated the length, I never stated that there would be an improvement in this cable (until this post), etc., etc., etc. So, yes, correct you are, all else being the same, expect no pq improvement. Cheers. :)

Ooo Cables Cables Cables! :)

Several people before have already mentioned that a performance improvement will not likely be something you see. Cables are cables, and I suspect the ones you have now are just as capable as the Monsters that are on sale. Worth the 9 bucks? thats up to you, you might have a need for an extra set of component cables down the road, and at $9, thats a relatively cheap investment.

you guys are awesome! lol, thanks for the advice

I may go check them out just for the hell of it. If there out of stock, no big deal. but for $9 bucks... what do i have to lose. Guess if i had to sell them I could at least make my money back.

I only started this thread because I've never heard of the brand Psyclone before. A friend of mine gave them to me, and i don't know much about the brand. Most people never mention them when their talking about quality cables. so was just wondering if monster would be any better... maybe i'll write up a comparison review on both.

thanks guys!

That was what we were discussing retromangia: all else being the same, there ought to be no appreciable difference in pq between cables (unless of course, one is blatantly inferior, or damaged, or you you talking very long lengths). So don't buy it with the expectation of an improvement...but I agree, at $9 it's a bargain...if you have a use for it (another set). Cheers, John

Actually, the PS2 uses a proprietary connector for one end of the component cable, and the other end is 5 RCA style jacks (red, green, blue/ audio L, r).

Honestly, I just get the Sony cables, because any less is cheap (and typically quality gets kinda sucky) and any more is futile (Sony cables are pretty much a guarantee to work with the PS2, and anything else more expensive is just for looks and will not generally improve audio/picture quality).

Another reason to avoid Monster like the plague is because of their predatory business practices. Their marketing arm is spreads misinformation like it was going out of style. I hate that.

Either you are here for the wrong reasons or you are just plain retarded.
Not everyone is aware of Monster's tactics. I wasn't until a few months back. Oh, and he's not retarded, he's "mentally challenged".

I'm not familiar with Psyclone cables. If they are built well then an upgrade isn't helpful or necessary. If they are cheap and seem like they might break within a year or so, then $9 for Monster sounds like a great deal as they make decent cables - they just typically charge a whole lot more.
