Thinking of a projector.

Hi Guys,
i'm thinking to buy a projector for the moment my eyes are set on these two

The Sony VPL-AW10 and The Optoma HD70

So I have two questions?
1. Which one of these will you choose?

2. Is LCD better than DLP?

I'm leaning towards the Sony cos its cheaper, beautiful and black

I dont own either of these units but I am a happy LCD owner, each have pluc and minus like not as deep blacks with LCD and Rainbow issues with DLP so you may want to search past postings to learn what is well documented. I never noticed my Projector after the first week, if it is mounted on ceiling you may want to consider you wont notice it or how it looks either........not that any are really ugly anyway.

Im not qualified to answer this, but this is the impression I get:

3-chip DLP > LCD > 1-chip DLP

Of those two, I would go with the Optoma, hands down. I like DLP, though, so I'm biased. If you don't see rainbows or get headaches with DLP, I don't think you can beat the picture in that price range. The DLPs tend to have better blacks, more contrast, look more filmlike to me and you don't have to clean out dust blobs.
Be aware, however, of the lens offset on the Optoma! Make sure you have room (ceiling height) to mount it without your screen being 6" off the floor!

The sony has 3LCD and 1-chip picture processing. Does this in anyway increase the performance of the projector?

Biased on dlp huh. i dont have a dedicated HT room so I guess lcd will be better in my case cos I hear the with dlp the room has to be near darkness. Thanks for the warning about the lens offset. Of course I want something that i can easily setup which then I guess pushes me more to the direction fo the sony. but I dont know about the sony either and i think I read somewhere that there is someone problems making picture shifts.


Still needing more advice since i'm completely new at this.

I struggle with recommending any non LCoS Sony projector and would take the Optoma over it for pure image quality.

But, for ease of setup, brightness, long term quality, and excellent image, I would go with the Panasonic AX200 which is just a bit more cash if I were going with a non-1080p projector.

I've installed the Z5, AX100, AX200, and a 1080p Benq projector recently, and while the more expensive BenQ was very nice looking, the Panasonic simply was the easiest projector to setup and deal with overall and had no issues whatsoever.

I have check the Sanyo Z5 and the Panasonic AX200. The Z5 seems to be good and just a little above my budget. The only problem could be the light issue. My wife does not like to be in total darkness when watching moves .
I'm still pondering..........
