I fired up my new 340A and 340C last night, and there was no sound! The manual said "make sure unit is not in standby mode", but gave no indication of how to tell the difference between "standby" and "on", or how to switch between them ("off" is easy to recognize, as the leds shut off.) They said that if it had been in "mute" mode, an led would have been blinking.
Finally, I unplugged it, plugged back in and now it works fine. This is a real problem, because it shakes my confidence in the amp and makes me worry that it might have a defect. Does this seem likely, or did I just have an odd setting engaged?

I'd watch it over the next week or so. If the problem doesn't manifest again, I'd just put it out of my mind.

And if it does happen again, should I conclude it is a lemon and ask for a replacement? I have only had it a week.

Before asking for a replacement I'd ask for an explanation from the manufacturer. In fact. you might want to avail yourself of that privilege now, just to put them on notice that you've encountered an "anomaly".

I have sent them an enquiry. Don't know how long a response will take. Hopefully, it will turn out to be something simple like being in standby without knowing it. I love the amp, so I hope it isn't really having issues.

That's the best thing probably, to have documentation of the "odd" behavior, so that if problems continue they should be more likely to help you out.

I have zero experience with your equipment but I have a possible explanation. Some manufacturers have both a standby and an off mode. You get to standby by turning the unit off with the remote and you get to off by using the switch on the unit itself. It might be possible that you had it in the off position and tried to turn it on with the remote. In such a case it wouldn't work. The standby mode could be default and resetting it put it in that mode. I don't know that this is true of your unit. But it could happen on some units leading the owner to think something is wrong when it isn't. Good luck with resolving the issue.

Hopefully, it will turn out to have been something silly like that instead of an actual problem, and won't happen again. My overall impression is of outstanding build quality, and this is confirmed by reviews.
